How much should reupholstering flybridge and cockpit cushions cost?

So a day to unpick
A day to mark out / cut
2 days stitching
1 day fitting
5 days work for two + material .

So each Pax on € 40,000 p/a ( 80,000for the couple self employed)
6 weeks hols
That’s €870 / week each
So give them rounded up €1800 + fixed costs €25000 / 46 = 545 per week

So now it’s € 2350 + materials + TVA if applicable-
Call material round up to 700 ish inc Velcro etc
Looking @ north of €3k + TVA

Which is where MapishM was .

I,ve seen a upholstery shop I think in San Remo marina .btw

I suspect you may have underestimated the labour hours and overestimated the take home salary. Hopefully they cancel each other out.

I have sent Mike my detailed costs by email as i have just had mine done. However Mallorca as exactly double the price. Supply and demand. There is heaps of supply - but even more heaps of demand!

Mallorca ( probably like SOF) has just established its own market price. The people unlike MJ and Tockfields probably dont have contracts with the likes of Fairline and Princess to give them steady work, and no one will want to get any major work done in the season from May - Sept whilst Fairline etc will still be churning out boats.

So the flip side is that they have to recover the cost and earn money over a shorter period.

Anyway ... I just sent all mine back to the UK. There was a cost to me of a days work re fitting it with the old foam ( in the end most of it was replaced) and another half day moving all the poppers that are now in different places!

But I am a lot better off as a result.

E10k is taking the micky.

Challenge now is you need to get a move on to get them back here, done and back for the start of the season.

My flybridge cushions are currently being re-covered with Silvertex, 4 large flat cushions and 4 back rests, each with a curve. Total cost, including £400 for some new foam is about £1500. Seems like a bargain compared to some of the figures mentioned on this thread!

yeah, I'm beginning to get paranoid that all those I went to quote with were in collusion to stiff me over. Maybe there is a network between them like the car scrappies. Next time I'll be crating the lot in the back of the SUV to these promised backstreet shops in mainland europe and have a weeks holiday covered off by the savings I make! :p

Lang & Potter (OEM Princess ) did all our P42 for around 4K . Two colours of silvertex , new foam and a load of the 3m self adhesive popper bases so I could remove all the old stainless ones . Consisted of twin helm ( 4 pieces) flybridge dinner ( 8 pieces ) 2 flybridge subpad cushions , cockpit cushions ( 4 pieces ) and bow sun pad zipped in half . Lovely job and so far still perfect . Only just managed to get it all in a Vito van so a man with a ( bigger ) van would probably be needed for yours Mike , good luck .

Yes. It is basically a vinyl - but textured in a cloth like manner which (a) looks nicer (b) allows a bit of air movement causing less sweat in sitting on it in shorts for lunch.

Cleaning wise it is the same as vinyl ( as at the end of the day that is what it is).

I was wondering whether dirt gets trapped in the textured surface?

Anyone know if a UK company would be willing to do the job in SoF rather than me bringing the cushions back to the UK?

:encouragement:
roughly the same quantity and costs as mine then (slightly cheaper if you rounded down and I rounded up). Thanks, I know it was directed at Mike but I feel as if it's a bit of moral support for me too. Nothing quite so deflating as wondering just how badly you got stiffed. Takes the shine and pride out of the new furnishings.

When I was getting quotes I noticed that there were a lot of businesses claiming to do the work but actually just acting as a front / middleman to an artisan who contracted out to them. It may be worth having a delve into this to approach the contractor directly. I managed to source a couple if you are interested, but didn't use, as it turned out the transport costs would make them prohibitive.

I don't they would be able to transport the equipment needed or get the space required. What you might be able to do is get someone to fly down strip down the bits required, ship them back to the UK and do the work. Ship them back to SofF and reassemble, but I think its a long shot.

Boats.co.uk take my stuff back and forward as they have a regular van. There are several companies that do weekly mallorca runs and I am sure there are also several the do SOF runs.

Just strip it down, stick it in a cardboard box and stick in the hold of easyjet. Get it done here and shipped back ( assuming new foam or part foam)

Yep - Riviera Transport have vans shuttling up and down between SoF and the UK all the time. I've used them several times.

Mike, don't you have a boat fixing / odd job man who could remove the old cushions for you, wrap them up and send them back to the UK?

Pete yes I do have a boat fixing lady who looks after the boat for me and this reupholstery quote has come through her which makes the situation a bit delicate . I'm happy to pay a bit extra getting maintenance done through her because actually it suits me very well to leave the hassle of contacting local tradesmen to her and I just turn up every few weeks to a boat that works 100%. However her price for this job seemed way out of order which is why I put up this thread. Yes I could ask her to take the cushions off the boat and arrange for Riviera transport to bring them back to the UK but then the next time the boat breaks down and I need her help, she might not be quite so accommodating. Anyway I have told her now that the price was a bit of a shock and she has agreed to go out for prices to other companies. FWIW we agreed upfront that she gets a 10% commission on any work she arranges with an outside contractor, apart from the work she and her team do themselves, but 10% commission doesnt explain the very high price for the upholstery

M, if you don't mind me calling a spade a spade, don't bother giving a commission to boat carers.
They would deny it till death, but 99.9% of them already get it from the suppliers they get in touch with for any jobs you need.
And nope, this is not an IT-specific practice.
