How much should reupholstering flybridge and cockpit cushions cost?

M, if you don't mind me calling a spade a spade, don't bother giving a commission to boat carers.
They would deny it till death, but 99.9% of them already get it from the suppliers they get in touch with for any jobs you need.
And nope, this is not an IT-specific practice.

P you misunderstand. I dont give my boat lady anything; she gets her commission direct from the contractor and yes I'm perfectly aware that she might try to get more than 10% on occasions but I dont really care. All I care about is that I get a fair price for a job well done and that when something goes wrong on the boat I've got a single point of English speaking contact. In the case of this upholstery, I didnt think the price was fair thats all

SoF has a high density boaty aftercare infrastructure.

Your “ boat lady’s “ renumeration package is skewed towards her getting the max out of the deal and in my mind can,t really work in your favour .

There’s the internet , plenty of boat service mags stuffed full of contractors and in Antibes loads boat workers and guardians.

I don,t buy into this don,t trust Jonney foreigners- attitude put forward by some above ^^^ - not you btw .
I mean what a fag sending stuff back to the U.K. .

You will be shipping empty bottles next to be filled with EN wine if you carry on listen to them :)
Riviera transport will happily take your € - no question asked .

Get friendly with the boat infrastructure movers / shakers —— they don,t bite .

If you have a hire car , call in to the Beneteau dealer on the route to the A8 , ( sorry forgot the name of the outfit )
There’s a Uship shop on site too - so excuse to pop in — ask around .
Patuel Nautica ( sp ? )
I see there vans dropping off covers / seating all the time .

I use my Yard Arie d boom
Cedric looks after me .
A Bilge pump packed up - complicated wiring and looked a pig of a job to get to - under the geny - lowest point .
€60 / hr and the part .Took an hour for the “ racing snake “ and they sourced the correct exact pump .

Early on a G box hydraulic hose split - just as I was coming in .- They sent a man - I asked for all 4 to be replaced - may as well - guy turns up with correct tools removes them .Comes back next day with a set all made up - fits em and changes the G box oils as well .Parts about €350 plus 2 hrs labour .
What else ?
Oh the passerelle packed up —— I bought a 2nd fob and somehow cocked something up .
It was on the last day before departing - Rung AdB —- few weeks later arrived back - it worked and on the saloon table a invoice for only 1/2 hr — Fr along the lines of reprogramming the sender ?

I have an ac with them so just breeze in when passing to pay - they know who I,am .
Sunseeker have been helpful too
Put me in touch with there boat sparky / fixer
He did my Aircon and fitted a induction hob ,sorted out a bad regulator on a fridge all on separate occasions.

November starter batts went - I just asked the gaurdienne who looks after next doors Sunseeker ( works for SUNY France in fact his van has Sunny Yaching on it ) I’ve known Daniel for 15 years - he can clean sterngear too - diver .
Mate n I asked him in the car park 5 pm pissing down with rain - Sat night .
He told me where to go and tell them put them on “ Danny’s ac “
As we got in our hire car - tap tap tap on the wet window , it’s Danny , he’s got the map / directions on his Samsung G to show me - just to make sure we know where to go - he then rings fwd to warn them .
We arrive and get an invoice 40 % less than the sticker on the batts .#
They load them into the car .

Arranging the above is not taxing or difficult .

Take the batts ^^^ your lady’s not gonna deal with them ,probably not got an ac ? Or they being decent Fr guys not prepared to mark up to max out on her kick back ,
So she will lead you to a silly price supplier .
Some one gonna chime in now and say they ship batts from the U.K. :)

Any how good luck with it .

# yes I did google the batts and got no where near what I paid btw

:D That'll be me, sort of - I'm about to buy new batteries and I'll be buying them from a UK company, albeit with a French distribution depot.

I've had similar experiences to yours though - not everyone in SoF is a total rip-off. I've had a few cover jobs done by Le Filao at the end of Mole Sud, and he's been very fair with me, so far at least. And I've got to know the folks at the de Stefano yard in PV, through them I had an extremely useful fixer on the boat who managed to extract my windlass gearbox last year, when I absolutely could not shift it. Charged me half an hour's labour.

One thing I haven't managed to find yet however is a decent and reliable boat valeter. Maybe this year...

ROTFL, this scores as the best laugh of the week, hands down! :D:D:D
Makes up for your silly comparison between boat stabs and massage seats or air suspension... :p

How can I put this PF? I can't be arsed to go surfing the internet for boat maintenance contractors. My time is more profitably spent running my business than spending days trying to shave a few Euros off the price off some boat service or another. If I was retired and had time on my hands yes then of course I would shop around for the best possible price for services. The only reason I put up this thread was because I felt the price I'd been given for this reupholstery job was way out of kilter but maybe for SoF it isnt

The other reason I use a 'boat lady' is that for me owning a boat is about maximising the amount of time I spend cruising and minimising the amount of hassle doing it. I have spent about 15yrs cruising in the Med and been based in various different locations and I have found that having a trusted person to take care of most if not all the jobs onboard works for me
