How much does it cost to run a boat?

Up here in the Highlands your own swinging mooring once laid should cost £100 aprox pa to maintain.
A winter ashore in a yard can be had up here for a bit under £1000 including lift in and out;mast down and up;pressure wash.
There are facilities a lot cheaper than these because of their relative remoteness-all right if you live up here.
There again you can fly Easyjet return to Gatwick from Inverness for a little over £60 return for which you get some of best UK sailing.
But its going up having risen from around abot £700 four or so years ago to getting close to £1000 this year.
A rented serviced seasonal summer mooring can now cost around about £800.

You will enjoy your boating a lot more if you buy a boat at a cost that you can immediately write off ie it doesnt appear in the family financial accounts real or mental. Never borrow to buy one and that includes increasing the house mortgage if you have one.

I worked out one year that it cost me (on a swinging mooring) £140 every mile I sailed that season - I did have a lot to do on the boat that year. And do you know what? It was worth every penny
