Hello, LadyInBed. I was also wondering whether women on the forum tend to use names which identify them as female and what the reason for that might be.

I put uncertain 'cos in this PC world it might get better benefits or treatment. Besides which the freakin' septic Drivers licence bureaucrats berks put me down as 'female' because Robin is a girly name here. They did subsequently change it on appeal mind but it woul be nice for folk to offer me a seat or open a door for me so praps I should have left it unchallenged.:ambivalence:

If women prefer not to identify themselves by gender, I think it's unlikely that they will choose to participate in a poll that does just that. Can "non public" polls be posted on this forum? If you are really interested in the answer to your question that might be a better option.

The poll isn't to identify which specific users are female. How do you do that with a poll? It was to quantify the relative percentage. Any comment below the poll is voluntary.

...erm, but this is an open poll. So, if you hit the view results button, you can see who has voted what.

BTW, I'm male, despite the forum name :o

Right, but it's voluntary. You're not identifying other people against their wishes - apart from you could with a comment, which I hope nobody would. My original comment under the poll was not that women seem shy to identify themselves but the opposite. Some have usernames that might deliberately identify them as female (not just an obvious boat name). This is difficult, because I don't want to give an example. There are examples, though I could be wrong. I think I've seen two female avatars. So, I started the poll from the interesting (to me) idea that of the apparently tiny number of women users, some of them clearly identify that they are female. So, the poll.

You can select whether the poll is public when you create it.

I think you have misunderstood my response. Your question was:

"how many women use the forum?"

If women using the forum prefer not to be identified by gender (possibly with good reason) then they won't respond "yes" to a poll that does just that and to which those who respond will be identified by their forum names by anyone who cares to take an interest.. So your responses may be skewed. Or maybe not. You will never know.

Is this so hard to grasp?
