We've got a 30' light/mod displacement, fin keel boat and just got a new anchor. What do people think would be the best combination of chain/rope to attach to it, shop has the option of 6/8/10mm chain.

Thanks,

Fin

if just some chain, then i would use 30' of chain along with couple hundred feet of 3 strand. am sure you will get many thoughts on the subject... and about the string, if too short, cut both ends off........... that would make it 'endless'

I use 8 mm short link L grade chain on my 4 ton 30 foot fin keel yacht. I've got 44 metres of chain, and then about 100 metres of 16mm 3 strand nylon.

My primary anchor is a Bruce copy of only 7.5 kgs, but works amazingly well - backup is however a 15 kg plow that is a pain to use.

In my part of the world we get a fair bit of coral, so all chain is normally the go, but if you're goin chain / rope, then I'd go back thru PBO and find some interesting articles on catenary and rode to depth ratios.
