Just another Sunday night planning session.

Assuming we have an average 2 ring plastimo cooker.

How many hours would the bottle last if say we had a. One ring on full, b. the oven on half, c. Both together .

We haven't sailed for long enough periods to work it out as we don't keep accurate records.

Trying to work out if 2 bottles will last three weeks, cooking say 2 meals a day and boiling the kettle say 5 times.

They last forever if you don't switch it on.

But I reckon a 7kg Calor lasts a fortnight of full time aboard in the summer, so you should be OK with 3x 907's as long as you don't use them for heating.

A blue refill has lasted me a whole summer, with just boiling water and not grilling/cooking. Hope this helps.

It's passage planning for 4 crew on the arc.

I guess they'll want a hot meal once a day and maybe even a hot breakfast

Plus my lot drink tea like its going out of fashion.

The Camping Gaz site gives the consumption as 220gm/hr for a 3000kw burner so you could work it out from that.

Without doing any calculations my gut instinct would be that 2 bottles aren't enough to be confident of getting there without running out.

Will you be able to get refills at the other end?

OK, ask yourself which is better, carrying a 4th cylinder - just in case - & not using it, or running out of gas (& therefore hot meals & hot drinks) as you run down your westing in warm climes.

Personally, I'd rather arrive with half the stores still untouched than run out of anything. Especally as wind driven crossings are by nature of unpredictable duration. What if it became a 4 week trip - or even 5 weeks?

Our Campervan  has a four burner cooker and grill, no oven .and a Gas water heater which seems to use next to nothing. A 907 lasts about a week if we dont eat out. Calor 7kg lasts about 3 weeks, but you cannot get the blue calor bottles outside UK, whereas 907s are in most big continental supermarkets.

Having used 907s to Malta and back, I wouldn't want to be crossing the Atlantic with only 2 bottles.

2 hot meals a day for 4, plus lots of cups of tea and hot snacks through the night - id be wondering if 4 bottles would be enough!

3000kw ??... 3 kw maybe but most checked were smaller than that Only 1.5 kw or less in some cases But generally when cooking they will be turned down to a fraction of their max setting. Only when boiling kettles of water will they be on full throughout.

I'd agree though that two bottles probably wont be enough for 3 weeks esp if starting with one only part full.

I agree - we have an oven and two burners plus a grill and without trying to be extra economical (or particularly wasteful) we get through about a bottle a week with between two and four people on board.

On a 3 week holiday we'd expect to change that type of of gas bottle twice, so two wouldn't be enough. And that's family cruising with odd meals ashore.

A 907 last us 10 days, 2 people on board, cooking every night, plus plenty of hot drinks, Sailing the West Coast of Scotland.
I change to a 6kg propane which last much longer and doesn't freeze in the winter.

Two of us living aboard on anchor with Plastimo 2 burner stove, a 907 lasts us on average 2 weeks which includes oven use. That's of course with normal awake/sleep times, not sailing 24/7.

I've not been that far south, but would you still be drinking as many cups of tea when you get to the hot bits? I'd have thought that cool drinks and cold food would begin to take over so consumption would go down. I'd agree 2 is too few to be sure but 4 is probably overkill.

Yes, same here, plus occasional use at night, at sea, but going easy on the oven otherwise.
