How full is your marina ?

Hi
Left Shamrock Quay last year for a mud/tidal berth further up the itchen river,it's on a pontoon with elec and water its 5min more on journey time to Southampton water.
But this little boat yard and the others around it,are packed out with ribs to 38 footers, that don't mind the hasltle of the tidal restrictions.( no rags due to low bridges).
But these moorings are less than half of what the marinas are charging!!
I think a lot of people are still feeling the financial pinch, including myself.
Cheers.

yep expensive car park the hamble. for a peice of decking 11mtrs x 1mtr costing approx 7 grand
you could rent a nice flat for the same money.
when i was in le havre i was stalking to a german guy in a 40ft yacht who was paying about 3 grand, he thought us brits are nuts paying these prices

This in fact was a summer shot of Empuriabrava, Costa Brava. Just to show what appear to be spaces but really shows a sign of the times. 5 years ago the pontoons were full of stern to moored 15 - 25 ft boats. Now the whole area occupied by 40 - 65 footers.
I'm now one of the tiny ones at 37ft

Beaulieu-sur-Mer is full. We had to wait 4 years for an annual 10m berth. Now waiting for a bigger berth to kick start the buy a bigger motor boat plan. You can buy a lease, but they run out in Dec 2018 and no one knows what is going to happen next.

Three quarters full in my Marina, Port Iasos, in Turkey. Truly beautiful spot, about three grand sterling for my 13 metre yacht.

Here is my quick take on the Premier marinas you mentioned, just a personal view

Chichester, tired and needs money spent on it
Swanwick. A good place. Expensive
Puerto Solente. Can't comment
Gosport. No comparison to Haslar next door. Don't like the place at all
Brighton. Last time I went there it was turning into a bit of a dump
Eastbourne I do like but poor base in terms of location for trips

No doubt others will be along to defend their fantastic marina but that's just my quick view so not surprised they have space

Basically as with all business,s the marina companies charge what the market will bear.
Boating is an optional hobby and as with all leisure pursuits and other vanity spending such as clothes with little logos on them, watches the size of small cars and most cars, the sellers will charge whatever people are prepared to pay.

We visited Ocean Village over christmas. There were only two berths to choose from as the many empty ones are owned by the houses and they don't own boats. MDL are not allowed to use them, so they sit there empty.

That's bizarre, as I was there at exactly the same time (between Christmas and new year) and given multiple choices of (12m) berth.

We were on the North (marina office) side of the marina on a 10m berth.
There seemed to be dozens of empty but non-useable berths.
I guess you would have been on the South side of the marina as I think there were more there.

I was there for six months and moved on about a year ago, not too keen, the South side has a few empty spaces, not many, the other side take ya pick, loads of space

??? You moved on about a year ago, Chamaerops and I were there within the last few weeks. I rather think we are in a better position to comment on the current situation.

My current location, Canet en Roussillon has a waiting list. There is a berth about to become free as I am moving to Roses in Spain. In Roses I took an annual rental there - one of two free berths for rent in the "all weather" part of the port.

Around the outside, there is a lot of free space, but this is not recommended during winter. There are some berths free for annual rental in Port Vell, Barcelona if any one is interested.[/QUOTE

We know Roses well having had an apartamente in Canyelles Petites for 15 years, completed sale on it a couple of weeks ago. Lovely place. If you need any info PM me.

As regards marinas D&R in Weymouth not full but not far off.
