How do you delete PM

I have had an error saying that I have exceeded the number of letters in my PM so cannot reply to an incoming message, also when replying where do you start typing?

Click "reply to private message." when the white text box open, the incoming pm will be there in

tags. Either enter your text underneath, or just delete the test in quotes, type your reply, then hit send.

Tick the box on the right of the ones you want to delete.
At the bottom of the page tick "selected posts". Then select "delete"

That's the question I answered to start with, but reading the OP back, it seems he's exceeded the character limit for a pm?
