I have recently had my Raymarine 54e re-set that is the MMSI and the Call sign erased this will allow the radio to be re-programmed. Problem is that I have no idea how to do this. Does anyone know the procedure to input the new numbers?

I programmed my 55E but it was a couple of years back and think 54E should be similar. I remember just working through the menu and using the dial to select each number before pressing it to move on to next one. Sorry that I can't rmember the structure but will try to dig out the electronic copy of the manual (paper one is on the boat in a sealed container).

I can email the manual but don't know if 54E has same menu structure.
Press Menu/DSC
Rotate large knob (Ch.) to DSC Setup & click it to select
I think MY MMSI ID is first
Use large knob to set numbers and click to move on to next.

You can download the 54e manual from the Raymarine website. This gives you the procedure.

Incidentally just as an afterthought does the CALL SIGN which I believe to be the ATIS number need to be entered or will the ship be identified if the distress button is pressed by the MMSI number only.

The ATIS number and the call sign are two totally different things. If you've not heard of an ATIS number before its explained on the Ofcom website at http://licensing.ofcom.org.uk/radiocommunication-licences/ships-radio/faq/atis-faq/

You don't insert your call sign into the vhf as its not needed here, you can be uniquely identified from your MMSI number.
