Hi

my insurance wants a permanenyt mark on my dinghy with the boat name - i have seen sone waterproof boat decal stickers - will they do??

thanks

Well decals will come off easy enough with a heat gun, so maybe not what they are looking for?

Use those for a sensible way of marking the dinghy on the solid transom and maybe a small identity marker in permanent pen somewhere discreet?

I used a permanent marker pen on mine in 1997, and it is still there................unfortunately, because Tender to Lust for Life doesn't look too good on Rafiki.

My method was a bit "Blue Peter".....
I printed out the text onto thin card using the font called STENCIL in microsoft office.
Cut out the black bits with a craft knife.
I then spray painted the name onto the tender's hard transom using some plasti-kote spray paint I had in the shed.
Do one word at a time and press the card stencil hard on the surface to get a sharp edge to the letters
If it fades, its cheap and quick to touch up

Thanks a million

This is a great forum and people so happy to advise- cheers, I am going to follow your advice and get a stencilling kit plus a sticker for the transom.

I do stencils and the paint if that helps but don't put the yacht name on the tender, it just advertises that your not on board.

But the insurance company want the tender marked with the mothership's name.

Personally, I think I would mark the name on the hull underneath. You would have complied with the rules and when afloat or ashore no-one would know what boat it has come from without tipping it upside down.

He does special vynil lettering & made some for our inflatable tender / horseshoe lifebuoys and they have been there for 2 years

Nevr used their product, but if it like any other vinyl decal, they can be taken off in a few minutes with a heat gun. So they are not really permanent as far as an insurance would be concerned?

I guess you should ask the insurance company what they would accept as being permanent. Get it in writing and comply with it to be safe.
