How can I find a mature lady to come sailing with me?

On June 4th last year, I gently held my wife’s hand as she died and ended the 43½ years of our contented, argument free marriage. We had sailed together for 30 years doing perhaps 40,000 miles, with most of the distance being done in the last seven years, as we spent the four summer months cruising. The boat is now in a big storage building on the German Baltic coast, as the summer months in the Baltic are better than England, but not as hot or expensive as the Mediterranean.

I don’t want to sail single handed and don’t want to sail with a bloke. I’m 68 years old and fit enough to expect to be able to carry on sailing for many years yet, so I don’t want to sell the boat if I can find an agreeable companion to share the enjoyment and daily costs with me.

Hence the question asking for advice about how or where I might find a lady who is interested in spending four months on a 28ft yacht.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Colin.

So sorry to hear of your loss.

Try Lovesail.com

Never tried it, but a chap in our marina got on very well.

Maybe sell up, and downgrade to something more manageable?

Dating websites are pure hell. I am 40 years younger than you, and they have done little for me. That being said; I've only ever used the free ones; (plenty of fish)

On inspection, that lovesail seems to be the right kind of place for what you're looking for; but, I'd be cautious of parting ways with your dosh for it.

Online dating.....*cringe*

sorry to hear about your loss. It brought a lump to my throat.
I hope you find what you're looking for and I'm sorry to be blunt but I think the part about sharing costs might put a prospective partner off a bit.
If you find someone intetested that is something that could be discussed at a later date.

Thanks for the quick replies.
I'd never heard of the lovesail web site, so joined just now and found five pages of ladies. Sadly, they all live south of Oxford whilst I live on the Pennines above Leeds.

There is a lot of mutual trust needed when sailing, and that needs to be built up prior to casting off. With 250 miles between me and the majority of ladies on the Lovesail web site, building up trust is not practical.

Nor is selling my home and moving to the south coast.

Any more suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Colin.

My sincere sympathies.

I don't think there can be that many women wanting to spend 4 months in a confined space with a man they don't know. If it were me, I'd be inclined to join a local club where single ladies might go (painting?), and take it from there.

I'm sure you'll always treasure the time you spent sailing with your wife, but sailing with blokes isn't that bad, is it?

A friend of ours fell out with his partner. They had arranged to go sailing along the North French coast together but in the argument she said "..and I'm not coming sailing with you."
He held her to her word. Subsequently he did a paid search on Crewseekers to find suitable woman to accompany him. Of those he phoned four. Of the four one agreed to meet him at the boat. Following the discussion she returned a week later for the 7 day trip. By the end of the trip they were a couple. They stayed together for a couple of years before finally splitting up.
So Crewseekers is another possibility.

pm me your details and I may be able to matchmake! ::cool:
Seriously, I have a lady friend who might be exactly what you are looking for as you seem to be exactly what she is looking for.

Must be others around here who could be matchmakers. Perhaps we need a sub-forum for 'would like to meets' :D

Ditto, I have mailed someone the link who could be ideal, but I'll let her be the judge.

To those excellent people who know somebody who they think that may benefit from being introduced to me, I can only say 'thank-you'.

I have an e-mail address that I use when meeting sailing folk as it says it all about my boat called Emma. Please can you be discrete with using it, as at the moment it is spam free and I'd like it to stay that way. The address to contact me is emma-etap28i at ntlworld.com (Obviously, no spaces either side of the word 'at'.)

I find it remarkable how people with sailing boats always seem to be the nicest and most helpful that I ever get to meet. It is always worth getting off my boat to go and help another boat's crew moor in a marina, so thank you for doing 'match-making' version for me now that I need help.

Sorry to hear your story.
we use the PM (private message system here) its safe & exchange email addresses then via that method.
good luck

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I found my crew on plenty of fish (PoF), but I wasn't just looking for a sailing partner.

I would try to get to some of the local PoF meets to meet folk, messaging and trying to arange a date can be a nightmare, also the ladies get so many messages from chancers that I think they delete most unread.

There is a meet in Hull on the 27th Jan. It's a pub meet so it wouldn't be my cup of tea, too noisy to chat, we used to run the Wakefield meets quiet enough to hear folk talk.

There are no local marina bars on the Pennines. Here, the word 'marina' means something very different to the locals, who assume it is where barges are kept on the Leeds-Liverpool canal.

there loads of women out there, check out your local marina bar, also the Metro paper locally you'll find ladies there of all ages.
