Long history with that boat - not been used for 20 odd years but mostly left in the water. Guide price is about right, but suspect somebody will get carried away with images of its heyday in the 70s and pay over the odds and then need to spend £60-80k to get it up to standard.

Not unusual - a bit on the high side, but at least 15% Plus VAT buyers premium is quite common in Classic Cars for example. Not sure whether there is a seller commission as well, but maybe not as it is being sold by IOW council to defray owners care costs as he is penniless in a council home.

Not going to pay for many months at the Elms in bembridge but a sad situation No doubt Will 8k secure maybe?
Suspect somebody will get carried away on the day and pay silly money. Know a bit about these boats from years gone by, plus a little of what this one was like 10 years ago before it became a house boat and reckon £80-100k to do it justice IF the Perkins is OK. Say if, because it has not been run seriously for years.

These Carbineers were very highly regarded / lusted after in their day, and commanded premium prices on the second hand market - the mere fact that they were designed by Laurent Giles said a lot back then.
Some more info about them here - the GA drawing attached below is from this link.
SailboatData.com - CARBINEER 44 (MOODY) Sailboat

moody_44_carbineer_drawing.jpg

Boatshed have now sold this vessel, but her details and many photos are still on line -
Moody Carbineer 46 For Sale, 14.17m, 1974

She was re-fitted with a new, larger (135 hp) Sabre diesel in 1995.
Copied below is part of the praise by Boatshed for her :

"With good performance under sail and a range of over 1000 miles under power the Carbineer is considered to be one of Laurent Giles best designs. Moodys build quality was second to none in the early seventies and although now over 30 years old this yacht appears to be in better condition than many only half her age.
If you like the classic lines of a traditional gentleman's cruiser but want the maintenance benefits of a robust GRP hull then this yacht is worth your consideration. "

Sold for £15800 plus 20% buyer premium
Just what I thought - suggests there were no dreamers around. There is one being refurbished at Hamble Point with a budget of £150k which will no doubt be exceeded. this one might get away with under £100k if there is a lot of DIY
