Is the head using water from the main fresh water tank for flushing? Thought that was a no-no? Possibilities of back contamination up the inlet pipe?

So was having a poke around the boat today as the loo is still filling on it's own. Finally managed to find the valve (totally inaccessible place obviously) and it's different from the forward cabin valve. Before I start messing with it - what's the bit on the right of it? The forward head valve doesn't have this..

Thx

Mat, the upper part of the valve has 4 screws, take the top off, under it is a valve, you will see some dirt in there holding the valve from sealing. Still not sure about the hot water situation though.

Thanks Paul. Will give it a go when I get in the hole without getting stuck. Not sure about the hot water either. I think the loo must have emptied the cold tanks and then the hot bypassed the one way valve somehow. Not been hot again, only that one time.

Just thought I'd close this out as I'm sure there were lots of people wondering whatever happened to my hot toilet!

So, I think there were two issues. Firstly the stat on the cylinder, despite being new, wasn't working properly and I think the water boiled and made its way into the cold water feed for the toilet somehow. I turned the stat down and whilst the problem has gone away, not sure how it happened in the first place.

Second problem was that the toilet was filling on its own very gently then overflowing and the shower pump was kicking into to drain the water. This was regardless of pump on/off so we had a situation where water was travelling up-hill. There were a couple of working theories for this but the fundamental problem was that the valve was leaking.

Given the location of the valve, I decided to replace it and if the other was repairable per VP's post above, I would keep it as a spare. Cue no stock in the UK of the valve for c. 8 weeks. I eventually ordered it in the US and despite shipping, tax etc, it still worked out about the same price as a UK sourced valve.

Then onto fitting it - luckily I had a slightly (and I mean obviously only very slightly) slimmer friend who could fit in the hole nicely:

Then the source of the problem. VP right as usual - that little bit of black whateveritis was enough I reckon to hold the valve open.

All fixed now and a happy SWMBO to boot!

Thanks guys!
