Hosepipe Ban

On the news this morning that 3 BILLION litres a day are lost in the UK through leaks !

Just to put it into perspective I wonder how many litres goes over the Teddington weir in a day? Why not just divert it down a pipe:) I'm sure the North Sea doesn't need topping up.

I can't quite get my head around this hosepipe ban.

I'm not allowed to use a hose to clean my boat. But, if I pay a professional company to do it they can

I'm also not allowed to use a hose to clean my car. But if I pop down to my local Sainsburys and pay, all the car washes are working

How can this be right if we are in fact as short of water as we're lead to believe :(

Simple
The public are seen to be profligate with their use of water. It's assumed that everyone has an huge area of turf on a sandy soil and leaves sprinklers on 24/7.

OTOH if commercial users are prevented from using water - then they'll go out of business.
It has been said (I know not if correct or not) that commercial car washes recycle their water - so use a lot less than Joe Public with his hose.

If the drought gets worse ALL extraneous use will be banned....

I think one water company official admitted it was really just symbolic, just a way of making the public think about the water they are using. Getting into the detail of when and how you can't use a hose is painfull.

I am not sure how long before sea levels may be totally depleted but the last time I looked -actually on Sunday afternoon - there was still plenty of water there waiting to be enjoyed! So in these drought ridden times what better than to leave the dusty garden behind and take to the sea while the rivers are still full enough to allow safe passage?

So here is my special offer to all Forumites - buy a new boat from us and we will install a water maker, at no cost to you, to be sure that you will always be able to wash the boat down, take a shower or simply use the taps on board........you could even take some water home in a can. You have to agree, this is more helpful than B&Q who, I am told, have all but run out of water butts.
