I've inherited one of these little engines which has been hanging on my friends transom for years. It turns over freely but has a split in the outer cover of the throttle is split and rusty - it needs a new one. I've looked on the net and Honda ones are over £50, any ideas?

Good grief. I doubt Honda make that cable which means someone else does. However, there is a couple of bends on the carb end and no idea what happens at the throttle end. Whilst £50 is OTT, the time to find anything similar and then bend the ends accurately probably isn't worth it, sadly.

If you haven't had the engine long, there are a couple of other mods worth doing. There are 4 bolts on the underside of the power head cowling that rust. Replace these with stainless before its too late. Also the two bolts that hold the card and air filter box on are a pain and I needed to grind down a socket to get it to fit. Steve 66 supplied two replacement hex head bolts which makes getting the carb on and off much easier. Also sadly he is taking a break from supporting these little engines.

This worth a read, put together by a couple of forumites for our benefit.

Steve 66 swapped the 4 bolts for stainless on a previous engine I had. It's a pity Steve's taking a break.

Clean out the rust with some Oxalic Acid rinse then cover with self-almagating tape.
