Anybody here doing the holms race tomrrow? should be a nice day.

details are on the Portishead cruising club web site, it run from Portishead around the holms and back, you pick your own start time to take account of the tides. for those of you with no sails, you could watch or grab a lift with someone- it might just convert you to sailing! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

not much point, you just point and power them don't you? doesn't seem to be much skill in that

There is loads of skill needed.

I have 2 keys to turn and 2 sticks to push forward.

Thats 4 complicated things to play with.

Besides, we need loads of power so that we can keep well away from the saily boats /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you're a good boy you might get to play with the trim tab thingys, I hear they can help you go around corners real quick and stay on an even keel (what ever one of those is) by doing this you avoid spilling the gin & tonic /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I dont understand this race.

I went to Cardiff for the day, had a great time and a good meal and still beat them all back

They need bigger engines, That should sort it all out.

Oh, kind of unfortunate but given how much wind there has been this summer the lack of it today would not convert anyone. Today was the perfect ad for mobo's /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I was a cracking day for Mobo's, but i did feel for the ragies........although not a lot, as I hear high winds are on the way.

Well Motor boaters, I had a great mornings sailings, and had someone not turned the wind off it would have been a perfect day, the plague of flys we had off steep holm drove me to turn my engine on and motor for home.
We could have had a team rely race, sailing boats down channel handing a gin bottle to motor boats who power it back /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The mobos did race in the bay on Sat afternoon. But the noise from one of them (a small black thing) was just unacceptable, dronwing out conversations on deck 200 m away. I guess he simple had open exhausts with no silencing at all.

I'm no envirofreek and love motor racing and the sound of a decent engine. But this one was simple excessive and must have been up in the 120db on board it.
