We (me and her indoors) have booked a weeks holiday in Mallorca staying in Can picafort starting on the 27th September. We will have a car and have been to the island several times. I was wondering where the best place is in peoples opinion to rent a small boat for a day. I have my ICC so engine size is not a problem. We always visit the various marinas on holidays to Mallorca because they are such lovely places and very good for lunch.

Regards

Dennis

You can hire various boats at Puerto pollensa but watch out for the seaplanes water bombing and the the refuelling costs
The lunch is good too

This is on the wrong side of the island for you,but it might suit if you want to go to a different place.

Port Adriano near santa ponsa has a lot of charter boat operators renting out 20-30 sportsboats and ribs (cobalt and other American boats). Google for best boats and top boats for the two larger operators. The boats look in pretty good condition.

There is a rental place in Cala D'Or marina with a big choice of boats and the marina and cruising grounds are very nice.

Don't know about the boat hire but if you are that close to Alcudia, you really MUST visit the Restaurant Meson Dulcinea.
Best steak restaurant anywhere

Great thx!

Going to Alcudia 10. Sept so will look them up.

Those new to Mallorca might check Cuevas Del Drach (and Porto Christo), Manacor (pearl factory), Museo La Granja, Inca, Soller, Sa Calobra, of course Palma (cathedral and just walking the city). And the beautiful (14 km long) Alcudia beach. Hidropark in Alcudia if that is your thing.

I'm going to Portals in 2 weeks time and I know if I charter a boat I won't be boating in the uk again so I'll leave my tickets at home.

Just towed my rib down there and it was so much better boating in the med that we left it there to use again next year.

My boating in the UK is finished for now, just got a Avon 280 rib left to play with here.

off to Portals on Friday for a very long weekend! Should get out on the boat 2 or 3 times. Could be my last time out on this boat before the upgrade. Not owned a boat in the UK so don't have the issue about boating in the UK :)

If you can get your hands on a RIB for the day, a good place to head for in Alcudia Bay is Cala Es Calo on the extreme eastern side of the bay.
Sea bed is large boulder style rocks - perfectly safe but take care you don't loose the anchor.
Alternatively, in a RIB you can go ashore onto the little beach.

Here are some pics of Cala Es Calo:-

We went to Cala D'or for a fortnight in June / Early July. We hired a Regal 27 Fasdeck (and fast it was too!) from Nautica Guimar based at the marina on the ground floor of the Gadus / Miura restaurants building.

I negotiated almost a whole days hire (think it was 1pm until about 7pm by the time we returned) for the price of a half day so definitely try and haggle.

We chartered for the day in Peurto Pollensa and had a great time. Got stung on the credit card deposit though....taken on the card and then refunded upon return. Charges and exchange rates added an unwelcome cost to the day.....my fault though as I should have seen it coming.

That is a pity. The problem is we normally rent a boat in the Greek Islands. 50 HP rib and it is so reasonable and honest. This year we had a full day including petrol for £140. Cant see anything that reasonable in Mallorca sadly and with the credit card thing kind of puts me off.

Odd thing is for other things the Greek Islands are far more expensive than spain Car hire for example

That is the one that I was talking about. They had a load of boats tied up going nowhere in late July when I was there.

Just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation Mike. (I remembered it from an old post). We went there last week and the steak was indeed very good! We will undoubtedly be regular customers in future!

+1 Took the family (9 pax) and decided on various tapas to share for starters, then Chateau Briand as main for all. Very good indeed, staff was very nice and friendly too.

Cost was fair, value was excellent. Thank you for recommending ;)
