Aircraft carrier, hull number 2, is due to arrive in Liverpool tomorrow. She'll be there for a week and open to members of the public to visit. Ticket only and 13,000 have been issued. Massively oversubscribed, all were given away in a couple of hours.

Anyone lucky enough to have a ticket?

Let’s hope no accidents occur while all these vistors on board. Certainly having seen the carrier in NY a few years ago a great experience for those lucky enough to have tickets. Just strange that they haven’t extended the same form of inclusiveness to residents of Portsmouth surely ?

Ashtead,

a good point.

There was always the story that when big American ships were in Portsmouth or anchored at Spithead lots of ladies of the night got on trains from London on what became known as ' have it awayday ' tickets :)

When the USS Forrestal was in the Solent I heard a British mobo owner invite anyone going ashore for a drink ...

" Gee thank you Sir, I'll pass that on "

There were 5,000 crew onboard !

Does she have any planes yet? F-35s would look awful funny propped up on piles of bricks.

There are two types of ships.

Submarines and targets.

I don't think that the crew of the carrier have much to fear from the subs'. These guys couldn't find their way out of the Clyde without help to guide them. They'd probably stand little chance of hitting PoW, unless they were alongside, of course :)

With an unreserved apology to all RN Submariners...............except one
