Hello all, I'm guessing my title will have started the argument for and against!

I'm just about to purchase my first inflatable and considering going electric for power. To set the scene I'm planning trip to Channel Islands at the end of April in my Antares 30 and feel I need a dinghy to get ashore on the smaller islands like Herm.

I've read a little about electric motors (plover/bison) and it would appear that as I would only be using it to go a few yards it might be a goer.

Let battle commence:) !

My mate had an electric outboard and it was alright in areas were there wasnt a current and for short hops like 50 m.

In the channle islands you have a fall and rise of 8-10m which means you have to anchor 1/4-1/2 mile away (especially if its busy).
The large fall and rise is accompanied with very strong currents, if you get it wrong you risk being swept away.
