HM Coastguard - Support needed

Signed....

I always did admire the professionalism of the organisation when I sailed around UK shores and listened to the %&$% that had to be dealt with each day!!

I'm never sure than in extremis in Spanish waters, I would get the same level of expertise if I were to put a call out on the VHF....

Many thanks once again for all your support. It's quite amazing to see that 700 and something people have taken time to read this post. I hope that increased publicity and awareness in all those that enjoy or coast will bear some fruit.

We are hoping for a pay rise in October! Yes I know it's hard to believe but we are 100% guaranteed a pay rise then...... Because the minimum wage is going up to £5.50/hour so that's going to be a 4p rise. Bit of a bonus i'm sure you'd all agree.

Once again I can't thank you all enough for your support.

Re: Kick the establishment where it hurts.

I suggest a 100% walkout during the first weekend of Cowes Week, that will get you some national media coverage.

You have my respect for being prepared to stand up and publicise the issue, not and easy descision to make. This is an excellent place to raise the profile of the issue, you will find very few, if any, who will not support you here. I do not see any justification for coastguards being paid less than those coordinating other emergency services, the pay rates you describe are simply unbelievable. You have a very strong case, good luck to you. And thanks for being there!

This is a national disgrace that professional people of the standard of HMCG are paid minimum wage.

Would be nice to see YM (and the other IPC magazines)publicise this petition in upcoming editions - What about something from the RYA? We all need the emergency services and it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect them to pay salaries to attract and retain quality staff.

If you were to include a link to a page expressing your position that can be printed, supporters amoungst us may be happy to post it as a signed petition on marina notice boards.
Also contact 'All at sea' publication (plus others) as they may welcome a good story. I am in Brighton and will volunteer to pin it up and return it when full.
