Any idea where I can access historic tidal height information (either predicted heights or actual data) for UK stations for a few years ago? Everywhere I have looked just gives next 7 days or next 28 days, with no option to change the dates.

Pubs beside rivers and harbours often have flood high water mark levels painted on the walls, but you'd have to meet the landlord & painter then calibrate them when sobre.

I think you will find these are predictions of what the tide should have been - not actually what there were.

Normal atmospheric conditions can make them differ considerably and a storm surge can make a catastrophic difference.

Thanks Sherlock ! :)

Good advice for beginners though who need all the help they can get, depth below one's boat being a fairly important thing, which is why I have separate fishfinder & depth sounders.

I have found - well between Emsworth & Cowes from the East anyway - nothing beats a set of binoculars and a tide guage pole with markings, stuck into the seabed.

There was a line painted on the wall of the old Army 23 Base Workshop in Wetter after the RAF vandalised a brick wall upstream holding back some water on the River Mohne.

That's why I posted the BODC link which is historic actual tide heights, limited of course to the available tide gauges.

Yes they are predictions....... I pointed that out in my post.

The OP asked for predicted heights OR actual data

Either the ap tide predictions or www.mdr.co.nz
Both use the same collection of independant harmonic data provided in the uk by Liverpool Universitys Proudman institute. They also supply the data to Lavers tide tables.
It runs as far as about 2050-never checked it backwards.
Also it provides data from other tide stations as well as standard ports eg Tobermory .
Just checked it back dates to 1900 and goes up to 2100
