I don't think it's the kids at all. It's the parents..if little Tommy gets blown over or hit by a flying roof tile..the parents sue the school, Education authority, owner of the roof and if they can the wind Gods.. Oh! and the Met office just for good measure...Cheaper to shut the school.
Probaly right, school bus was blown over today less than 2 miles from my house right across 2 lanes of the road and the road closed for hours waiting recovery. Luckily no kids on board. Just imagine if there had been.

It doesn't only happen where the haggis roam you know...my girlfriend lives in a village in West Sussex where there is no gas, and the electricity is often out if it blows more than F6.
She once had a power cut for 6 weeks and cooked with a cauldron over the open fire; I should have heeded that warning !
How quickly you all forget-well this is being typed by candlelight!-phones are on and exchange has a standby geni.Been without power since 15.00 yesterday.
Its sub zero outside and snowing.
Luckily having lived here for 12 years I have a little standby geni ;a big gravity fed multifuel stove at one end of house and a gas cooker at the other.
Having said that with no central heating pump its like the tropics here upstairs and little above plus 10 in middle room of our house.
The fun of the Highlands in winter!
Power was off at the pub yesterday, but very busy; business as usual- gas lights on the bar, and hot food being served. Ony drawback, and a big one in Scotland- no chips! The deep fryer is electric.
