Well I can't give an accurate figure, but I was ashore at Hayling Island today, fully expected it to be windy but on opening the car door, JEEZ ! Howling shriek in the rigging of those boats with the masts still up. I'm well used to the place in winter, this must have been F9 at a rather conservative estimate ?

So winds expected Thursday afternoon .. Half day .. Sounds like the teachers are off Christmas Shopping .. Don't they know that weather forecasting is an art. If its not blowing old boots do they still have HALF a day off

Suppose the next one will be its forecast to rain Friday so no school ..

Groan - my on going window refurbishment programme has one set of window apertures covered with heavy polyethylene taped on with duck tape. So far they have survived well. However, I did not get down to the boat last month to fit the new windows as I was recalled back to work early (abroad). This will be now be 3 big wind events that the polyethylene has been subject to. The boat is berthed pointing approximately SE. The wind will W veering NW so she won't get the protection from the other yacht. The chart table is below the window!

Geez, first they strike cos their platinum edge pensions are changing to gold edge, now they are closing 'cos of possible predicted winds! I want a job in education, well anywhere in the public sector, I need a rest from work and worry.

There are light breezes in Inverness, almost enough to move branches on small trees!!! And still they're closing the schools?!

I passed Inverkip about 1000hrs and I've never seen the sea state like it was this morn. I'm in Greenock now and it's got worse in the last hour. It's howling :eek:
Just wait it will come your way.

I got up early this morning with the intention of going to check on the boat before going to work. At 03:30 it was flat calm (Ayr) so I went back to my scratcher. By 09:00 it was a hooley.
Prestwick presently has gusts to 102 Km/hr.
Went to Troon at lunchtime and have never seen the boats dancing around so much. Had time to lash down my solar panels and adjust lines.
No sign of catastrophy - yet.
Baggypiper - I saw you on board but didn't stop to say hello... it was difficult staying upright on the pontoon.
