OK, I'm back, left Alcudia, after having boat re-surveyed and valued for insurance (pantaineus required it) by the way, you were right about the value Matt! Insurance premiums are now much higher. Motor sailed over to Menorca bound for cala fornells swell from the beam in that direction, with not much wind to stop us rolling, so went to Mahon instead, beautiful port, great anchorage around the back of an island, with a canal to go down to the town, lovely quiet spot, again noticed the lack of boats around, whats happening? Never saw another boat all the way from Majorca to Menorca and all the way to Sardinia. Mahon is an impressive place, but what was even more impressive, was 20-30 classic yachts, all tied up together on the quay, some rally or other, lovely wooden boats with magnificent varnishwork, jealous!!
Anyway, nice meal on a floating pontoon thingy, menorcan lobster, expensive, but what the hell! Left there the next day, bound for Sardinia, (always in a hurry when work looms) again not much wind, so motored with jib and jigger (Staysail & Mizzen) to help stop the rolling, something nasty must have been going on in the gulf of lions, as we were getting the swell, typical nasty, short, sloppy meddy seas! On the beam again! 26 hours later, arrive Alghero Sardinia, what an impressive way to enter Sardinia, huge cliffs, large bays and lovely little calas and anchorages abound.
Went into Alghero to check out the wintering stopover place, really nice, great service and a wonderful chap in charge, Frederico! Thanks for all the advice about the place! Offloaded motorbike to investigate.
Great old town, great food good shopping! I think I'll enjoy myself here! Unfortunately I'm now back at work, got to pay for that lobster and the new insurance premiums. But I will be on the forum for a couple of weeks, may have sourced a new motorbike aswell, things are looking up! OK, bye for now, sorry to blether on, but had to say something, otherwise you might think I go nowhere!
