Hi All,
Well it’s been about 15 yrs since my last post, is that a record??. My previous forum name was RDL but can’t remember my password and my email address has changed so I’ve had to re register. I had a Fairline Targa37 based in Sparkes Marina from 2003 to 2007. I’m now looking to start boating again but so many things have changed over the past 15 years and I feel like a novice again. It’s good to see that there are a few friends still boating and some familiar names still on the forum. Sadly some people that I knew back then have sadly passed away.
Things that have changed for me….
The Demise of Sealine.
The demise and re birth of Fairline.
Midships cabins
V drives
IPS drives
Joy stick controllers
Remote control thrusters.
Brexit and VAT status
Galeon??? Where did they come from??
To name a few off the the top of my head.
I’m looking to purchase a 50-56ft flybridge. Preferably a princess 50,54,52 or 56. Will be based in the solent and having re looked at most Marinas, we like Swanwick. I would appreciate your thoughts and or any experiences with these models. Not many of these available at the moment but hopefully at the end of the season some may become available. I am a little concerned about jumping straight into something this large but plan to have some intensive own boat tuition when the time comes. Regarding this, can anyone here recommend a trainer/instructor?? I would like to have a week’s own boat tuition for myself and SWEMBO. Do you think a 56ft boat in the solent is too big in terms of casual moorings at the weekend, booking ahead etc. THanks.
