Hi guys n gals,

I don't think i've posted on this forum before so be gentle. :)

After 10 years or so of being a Motorboat man, i've just bought a little Snapdragon 23 Yacht.

As i mentioned on the Yachting forum, i've a small mooring issue to resolve since she's at a Sailing club on a swing, paid until the end of the year but a) The swings are cleared mid October and b) I'm not a member of the club so technically i'm not allowed to use the slip to gain access to my boat. Ahh the fun of new boat ownership... :D

Anyway, does anyone have any recommendations of a cheap Winter Afloat mooring in the East Essex area? Anywhere on the Blackwater/Crouch/Roach etc would be fine and she has bilge keels so can settle in the mud without problem.

I'm happy on a swing or pontoon or even wobbley plank if it saves money.

Anyway, Hi again and hope to chat to many of you soon.

rgds,

Nick

On the south side of the Blackwater there is Mayland marina - there may be moorings there too - a bit restricted but not too much for a little Snappie. There are some swinging moorings in Bradwell creek under the control of Bradwell Outdoors Centre (run by Essex County Council).

North side there are mud berths at Tollesbury - see Dylans excellent vid.

Oh yes, sorry - hello, look forward to seeing you at forum do's.

Further to the Morgan Marine thing,

Can anyone decrypt what 'Upper Serviced Pontoon' , 'Lower Serviced Pontoon' and 'South Channel Trots' comprises of.

I've only ever experienced different depth Pontoons in my time.

Thanks People. :)

Thanks for the welcome.

I used to have a boat at Maylandsea for a good few years. Buffer was always really helpful and friendly.

I'll see if I can get some info about Bradwell creek. My other boat has been at Tollesbury for a couple of years (soon to go hopefully) I guess the mud berths are run by the 'Saltings' there?

Went there today for the first time to deliver something. They have two pontoons sticking out into the river from their yard that have electricity and water - "serviced pontoons". Trots in the south channel would be moorings in the channel where the main B'sea pontoons are - I assume these are fore and aft moorings.

It's allhere

Thanks for that.
They also have 'Walk on Pontoons' 'South Edge' and 'North Edge' for lots of money and I assume they have to fit into the mix too. :)

The Stour sailing club do mooring on behalf of HHA. It costs me about £150 a year inc. club membership, a swing mooring and a dinghy rack place. They also do a crane in/out once a year which is about £50 a go. You get about 2.5-3 hours before HW and about 1.5 after. Nice club with cheap beer. More details on website http://www.stoursailingclub.co.uk/

Many thanks,

I'll check their site out etc.

Try Bridgemarsh - phone number 07968696815. Biff will be helpful - he has walk on pontoons, and some swinging moorings, I think, if you have bilge keels and don't mind settling in the mud. Access is better than Maylandsea (both access by road and tide-access, and even access by train) and it's cheap and friendly.

It's time to drive around and see which one of those recommended you like best!

On the Stour Sailing Club site there is a guide to 'Essex English'. On the left hand column of their home page press the button for Essex English A-Z.

While it may not cover the idiosyncrasys of the Brightlingsea moorings it is very funny particularly if you visit your boat in Essex from another county or even when you originate from another country. Mooring just north of Sauf En I think they may have misspelt this place although there may be a difference between Sauf Essex and Norf Essex pronunciation.

There's a couple here that I didn't have before, so I have added to my database of moorings. PM me if anyone wants what I have compiled so far.

heheh! PM me with your email and I'll send it to you. I've been working it for my own purposes, but it will eventually include contact numbers, tidal access, distance from M25, distance from sea, pontoons or moorings, trot boat available, prices and any other useful comments! it's not complete yet.

I started because I've been looking for a new mooring and all this gen comes from other people here on the ECF.
