Covid19: We need the support of the leisure vessel community
We know we can count on the support of the leisure vessel community at this difficult time as we focus on keeping essential supplies flowing into the UK via Haven ports.
Please keep off the waters of Harwich Harbour and the rivers Stour and Orwell until further notice.
Stay at home, stay safe and support the NHS.

Stay at home..
Get depressed as your fiances take a nose dive and you are stuck at home
Commit suicide

Hey Mister I hope things never get that bad for you. Personally have been through similar stuff in the distant past but life comes around and
I appreciate the things I took for granted. Hang on in there, you are not alone. We can work it out.

I think I will be OK..
But there will be others who will not make it.. When we are told that we need a 2m separation.. and sailing by it's nature involves lots of fresh air and being a long way away from people.... what actual benefit is served by staying off the water?

I am totally inclined to believe what you say. Nothing would please me more and if this had happened today I would be afloat and possibly sneaking down to the boat on its swinging mooring and hiding in a lonely creek. I just had a chat with Karl, across the road, Second Coxswain on local Lifeboat and the last thing I would want to do at the moment is to have anyone involved in assisting me in what I would regard as a selfish act.

If you watch those programs about the lifeboat services... the ones that involve rescuing yachts mostly seem to happen in really lousy weather.. on lovely sunny days for sure they are busy... picking idiots off beaches when the tide rises and cuts them off, or idiots in inflatable lilo's being blown out to sea. The yachting community are mostly sensible and avoid trouble..

Television never shows the Ebay idiots who buy a boat on a pissed-up Friday night and drive to Lowestoft 'with a mate', boat takes on water, mate runs for it asap.
Owner carries on regardless until rescued. Solo sailors peeing over the side without a hope in hell of getting back on board. Sudden unexplained engine failure.
Anyway you know what I am saying. I agree with you Tomahawk, I am also without fear and invulnerable. Its the others what worries me.

But Marmalade, In many cases that's exactly what yachts do! Have you seen the HHA patrol boat clearing a lane for shipping on a busy weekend. Seems many people can't spot a bloody great container ship let alone a coaster heading through the melee !!

You are i believe an intelligent fellow ( even though you were misguided in your voting ), what is it about "staying @ home" do you fail to understand

My thoughts as well
So as has been stated
1/ you arrive in the marina
2/ toggle the code into the gate
3/ you use the toilet bolck
4/ you go down the ramp holding the hand rail
5/ you unplug the power from the pillar

What have you now ( an intelligent chap ) spread about on your "quiet isolated " sail

None of those, except perhaps the loo if I go into the clubhouse which is now shut. Sail from a mooring

What is it about what benefit do you serve if you don’t come near other people you fail to address?

Any bloody moron can recite what someone else says. .. please illustrate the likelihood of contracting an illness by staying out of contact with other people on open water.

My risk assessment indicates my greatest risk is not from sailing... it’s the supermarket when I go to buy food.

I think that's a bit harsh pvb. It makes their position clear on the situation and politely re-affirms the Stay At Home message to leisure boaters.
People could maybe criticize them for not doing so?

Not harsh, just realistic. we are being bombarded by emails, social media posts and actual TV/radio adverts all carrying the same vain virtue-signalling messages. It's not necessary. The current virus fiasco is primarily the result of the NHS and PHE ignoring all the warnings they've been given, and so being totally unprepared. If you doubt this, Google "exercise cygnus".

So what you are saying is, that if the Govt had acted a couple of weeks earlier, we could all go round coughing & sneezing & touching each other & the virus would not be transmitted between us any more & we would all be safe?
