Here's a handy tip

Do remember to check how much petrol is in the dinghy outboard before casting off in a river Yealm spring tide ;)

Handy tip.

When the lady of your life is starting the Seagull for her first time tell her not to throw the starting cord overboard in her excitement when the engine starts.......

I learned a handy tip too today. When you rewire the cockpit socket for a tillerpilot, don't just test that there's 12v across the terminals and call it done. It also matters which way round those 12v are :)

(Cue dismantling and rewiring the tillerpilot plug in the cockpit in the middle of the Solent this afternoon. Fortunately I had someone else on board to steer this time!)

I think that you might have saved me the cost of a repair - I think I might have got mine wrong.

Just remember that if the safety valve on a pressure cooker is not hissing, it does not mean you can take the lid off.

Baby wipes are excellent for removing gravy from deckheads and chicken drumsticks can travel from the galley to the forward cabin at really quite impressive speed..also half past broccoli according to the galley clock is meaningless as a time check..:o

Don't say things like that - reminds me of the time the yoghut maker exploded down below....urrrrggghhhh

Back on topic, placing the handheld in the convienient can holder near the compass - and complaining bitterly about having to reset all the sails to stay on course

Excellent post .So much to learn!
My top tip is.... not to pour the spare fuel into the kettle....the tea doesn't taste the same...........for weeks!!!

Tips

Check the bottom of the washing up bucket, 19 days of eating with your fingers, take spare cutlery on delivery trips.....

Here's a tip that a mobo owner I spotted last year might like to pass on:
When leaving a pontoon with a burst of power & waving to your friends, it is a good idea to unplug your boat from the shore power first

Turn on Radar, can't hear scanner rotating. Go uptop, start strip down, measure voltages etc ooh this looks expensive:-(
Starts to rain, put cover back on scanner & retreat to wheelhouse.

Tip - ensure switch on back of display is on, it does say scanner on/off!

Only been an electronics engineer for 25 odd years:-*

When pumping old engine oil out it is useful if the wee rubber tubing doesn't fall off the pump as you happily pump away. Allegedly

You can never carry enough kitchen towel. Fact

When leaving the pontoon, make sure you have untied all your lines, especially the aft cleat line that you can't see 'cos it's on the opposite side of every other line holding you secure. One otherwise perfect departure slightly spoiled.......a nice chap walking past said " do you want this one off, too?"
