Same pump I linked to above from Lavac I believe. I know it well, I have 2.

Hi Mitiempo,

Yes, thanks for your input it does look like the same pump but I have ordered a Whale from ASAP as they were a bit cheaper.

Whale Mk 5 Universal query

Hi Boo2,

My names Sheila and I work for Whale. I've spoken to our Customer Service Representative, Aidan, who I think replied to you this morning regarding this issue but I thought I'd answer the question for everyone on here too.

The pump you have is an old Henderson Universal pump. Unfortunately we have changed the design of the pump to create the Whale Mk 5 Universal. However, after speaking with Aidan, the BP0535 Mk 5 Sanitation pump will suit your installation. This pumps have 4 individual feet that can easily rotate to suit your installation and the rocker arm and handle come out of the face of the pump rather than the side to ensure easy use.

I hope this is able to help you and you are able to sort out your bilge - looks like good weather this weekend for sailing!!

If anyone has any more questions please feel free to contact us at any stage.

Kindest regards

Sheila
Hi, I was reading this old thread and wanted to find out if Boo2 resolved the Henderson MkV Bilge pump replacement?

I also have an old MKV bilge pump but after reading this forum and checking, I see that the mounting brackets on the current model are different which would require reconfiguring how it is currently fitted in the cockpit!

I was hoping that the repair kit would get me out of trouble but having bought the standard repair kit here in Australia whale-mk5-single-action-spares, it does not contain the locking nut I need to hold the pressure plates onto the diaphragmn. Looking at the Whale website it appears that I would also need to buy Service Kit AK8050 which contains the Diaphragmn and Valves.

Given that the standard repair kit cost A$99.95 I shudder to think how much the additional kit will cost. A new MKV retails at A$159.95 so the question I have apart from the mounting brackets on the new MKV are there any other changes from the older model i.e. if I bought the new MKV can I use it to substitute the parts that are damaged on my old version?

Happy holidays to all and here's wishing for a speedy response:)

Id be keen to find-out whether you had to adopt a workaround or which bilge pump you ended up installing?

Appreciate any feedback you may have:)

If you are looking for the center nut which is plastic, I had the same issue when my nut broke.

I made the fitting that the nut screwed on o in stainless using a metric nut so problem solved.

I did find the nut in question to be if I remember correctly is in fact 3/4: Whitworth so could be replaced with a stainless steel Whitworth lock nut if you can get one.

Thanks mate, unfortunately my outlet valve and diaphragm plates were also worse for wear so after weighing-up the time and expense trying to replace them together with the nut, I've ended up buying a new MKV to swap out the parts. Hoping that I can keep using the old cover with attached rocker arm to avoid reconfiguring!

Anyway, if anyone picks up on this thread they might find this exploded drawing more useful than the schematic on the Whale website - at least it details the parts and shows the different service kits!

I am not sure this is totally correct for you but could be useful....

I replaced my bilge pump with a Henderson Mk 5 and had to order this model, designed to fit through deck. The one shown is white and often used with a Lavac toilet - but you can order one in black:

Whale BP0535 Henderson MK5 Waste Pump (Through Deck Mounted) | ASAP Supplies

The new pumps are not well made (probably from the across the China Sea from you). They are now fixed by self tapping screws rather than captive nuts and bolts and the diaphragm on mine literally lasted about a week. The one on my Lavac has been in use more than 30 years.
You can get rid of the self tappers but it is a fiddle.

For spares I would look out for something on Ebay, maybe old stock diaphragms as well.
