Hempel Prop Treatment

I WISH

serve.php

That was our first lift back in 2009 - no treatment at the time and things are better now but you can see what I mean.
We used to berth at Mercury on the Hamble - thats nothing in comparison with the warm temperatures of the Med.
To be fair Mike, I don't think that SCM is typical for the Med. This is my boat after 6 months in the water in cleaner waters (no pressure washing).

I don't know about the Hempel prop treatment but I have Silic One on my hull.

I'll be doing a lift and hold in March to see how it is doing. I shall post photos to show how it is faring...
Nick I was rather hoping to see your bum (colloquially speaking) before I apply mine.

What did you clean off with first - I appreciate you lift your whirly bits out of the water !

Without taking over the thread.
I had a brand new set of stainless props fitted last May after several months of being in the water I removed them.
Expecting a couple of hours to clean them up with soap and water and a stainless brillo.
It took 15min happy days.
What I noticed was the props had a coating on but was clear.
I have emailed local volvo who did the fitting but they haven't replied.
Any ideas what this coating is?

I'll give you a shout before so you can see it come out.... I just had a pressure wash then dry out. No sanding first. The AF was well adhered from previous applications.

Mark (Ellesar) speaks kindly of me in terms of following Hempel instructions, which is very kind, but I know Boadicea's bum is a bit like a 3 badge hairy arse Stoker's following a trek on the Star Ship Enterprise on a submarine with rationed fresh water (i.e. right up sh1t creek without a paddle or long handled scrubber), but is is all well secured to the hull.

So I want a steady 14 knots and an occasional 18 burst at least until September, so a few lumps and smooth bumps should be OK.

Even if the crevasses do foul up a bit Trev, you will still gain by having most fouling fall off when in use.

Another advantage is that you will just need a lift and hold to pressure wash any stubborn areas and do anodes rather than a full lift out and chock etc. ££ saved over 2 or 3 seasons....

Tried Velox around 10 years ago like Mike, in fact, I think I received a free sample to trial with the primer, it didn't last very long but again it was brush and roller applied, on my Targa 34 duo-props. Used Trilux again this year but not expecting it to last, will lift before a long trip in June and may polish the props if its already washed off.

Wow that's great Pete - I was berthed in Andratx Club de Vela about 4 years ago by the hoist and noticed several boats being lifted with similar results, we do suffer heavy fouling in SCM, but it can be managed and the annual free lift and scrub helps.... !

Just spoke to the guys in our new marina. They're also of the opinion that Velox is the only thing that works. Prop Speed considered to be expensive and inferior.
