being new to bating and just nearing completion of the ICC is has come to me that at last i will need to buy a boat, trouble is which one, i have seen loads of what seems to be overpriced junk?!?

i am looking for a boat that is going to be at home on te coast as it will be berthed at hartlepool, it needs to be sturdy enough to take us on longer journeys ie into the med, and be comfortable to live on for months at a time, i have £20k and would like any suggestions please?

I feel you may find it very difficult to fulfil your criterea on the budget you have planned.i.e. a liveaboard of at least 35 feet etc etc. sea going etc etc.

I think for 20k you need to narrow your scope a bit. From your desciption of requirements you are looking for 30ft + for economy a displacement boat and something sturdy and reliable.
hmmmm not sure that's available for 20k
If your pull towards the Med is strong then why not look for something that you can tow which dependant on your vehicle will restrict you to about 22 ft or less. You can probably find a ten year old boat and trailor in this category for your money.
How's about that for starters??

cripes stu. £20k isn't gonna get you very far with that spec. Mind you, not sure that £200k would either. If you go to the med, you'll burn a fair bit of the £20k on fuel.

Don't lose faith just yet. There are boats out there that could meet your criteria. If your trip to the Med is via the French inland waterways and you choose your sea passages carefully (weatherwise) then a boat like the Seamaster 30 might fit the bill or a Fairline Mirage (29ft). I know of a Fairline Phantom 32 which is going for not much more than your budget and is a very spacious boat for its size.

All these boats are getting on in years now and for your budget you will have to accept that. But there are examples of these boats which have been kept in excellent condition and just need hunting out. Make sure you get a thorough survey.

Princess 32 might be an option as well (spookily I have one). They are quite spacious and with the diesel engines cheap to run. Plenty of stowage space - as a liveaboard they are a possibility but it would depend on how many people. I might be selling mine but there was a cheaper one on the french canals (15k & 'must sell') - I think it was advertised in a recent MBM. Try a search on YBW, I think all their adverts are on the web site.
