Hi

I've bought a boat in Hamble/Southampton that I will be sailing back home to Sweden next weekend.

There are a few things I wonder about and was hoping to get some help here.

I am looking for a store where I can find most things concerning tools, screws, batteries and stuff like that + general boating stuff, they'll probably have lot's of other stuff as well, for cars, gardening etc. In sweden we have a large chain like that called Biltema, I was hoping there's something similar around Southampton. Any recommendations?
I'll need to equip the boat with a tool box, electrical spare parts, extra bolts, nuts, new batteries, diesel spare cans etc. ((Yes I will be buying "proper s/s stuff" from a boat chandlery as well /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif, Aladdins Cave in Hamble I guess)

I am also looking for a life raft, 4 or 6 persons, at a reasonable price. Any ideas where I should search for second hand ones in the southampton area?

Regards Thomas

Very close to the M27 junction 9 there is a number of superstores including B&Q. Also Barden Batteries are near there.

Very close to the M27 junction 7 is an even larger retail area including Marks & Spencer, Sainsburys, B&Q, Homebase, Focus, and other furniture and electrical retailers.

Chandlers - Aladdins Cave do hold a good supply, and have several stores in the area, the best being on the east side of the A27 road bridge over the Hamble at Swanwick.

You could try Ron Hale Marine in Portsmouth for a liferaft. I know they hire liferafts and also do second hand ribs etc but don't know if they do second hand liferafts. They can be found at www.ronhalemarine.co.uk It might be worth a phone call.

Lycka till!

Thanx! Those where very good tips!

I'll call Ron tomorrow.
B&Q and Homebase was pretty much what I was looking for. Do you have any similar stores aimed towards cars as well?

Aladdins cave seemed rather limited on the web. Maybe they have more stuff in their stores. I'll be sure to visit the one you mentioned!

I'm not sure of the Southampton area but halfords are the store aimed at car stuff. Thier professional tools are good value for mid range tools etc. They will have a website I'm sure.
