I can honestly say, i was Tee total, till i started boating /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I was told when you buy a boat, whisky is fuel for you, just like Petrol is fuel for the boat, and that i had to drink as much as the boat did!!! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Boating for us, is definately a weekend hobby, not day boating, over a weekend, you can consume a lot of fuel!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If honeybee, wants to come to Ardlui, I'll happy to pass on what i was taught! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thanks for the offer, I did come and look at Ardlui but felt it was a little far up the Loch for me to come from Stirling. I also do a lot of white water kayaking so the further away I am from the river Falloch is better - Well so my wife says! She thinks I will end up taking my kayak with me and running the falls evertime I am there! lol

Maybe we could meet up on an island one night and have a good night on the fuel!

Yip, that sounds good.

We have a few people on our pontoon from Stirling, most of them take the North route, vis Calander and Crainlarich. But certainly from Balloch it is an extra half hour on a good day, and on bank holidays and extra 3 hrs!! /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

MAybe see on the water then, oh, and make sure we get more posts and questions from you, and we expect too see a post and pictures about the arrival of your new boat.

Cheers

Oh, one final thing, might be good to buy a small Handheld VHF, lots of people on the Loch use them, good for contacting others like me, and incase you get into difficulties. You can get them for under £100, again, Malthouse can help you out with that.
Any advice on that, again just ask.

Ha ha - Already got a Icom M-71 - I bought it last year when I bought my 1st little 15ft speed boat (you must have seen it on the loch it was BRIGHT BRIGHT Orange ) but obviously very basic and very small for Loch Lomond. Infact last time I had it out I decided it was too small for the loch. I have contacted that man you recomened about the kit i need so hopefully he will have it but not sure if it has gone through ok.. If i dont get a responce I will call him over the weekend

What is your call sign and what chanel do you operate on ?

I scan channels 16 and 10, and our call sign is Arkangel, but we aren't able to get too the boat for the next few weekends.
When do you get the boat, and did you go back to prossers and tell me you wanted an anchor?

I'm sure Martin got your message, and will get you sorted.

Can't say i've seen the boat, but then We haven't been on the Loch much in the last year or so, because of our babies health problems, but he's much better now, so we hope to get back to using it, before she's sold.

I get the boat on the 6th July but have to go for an eye operation on the 20th so may not get much use out her. But early august I will be out and definetly out on the 11th August as this is my sister birthday and going for a nice Champagne cruise so to speak. We will be in Inchkiloch bay

I think there are a few savings in there. Maybe you do need auto in the loch, but if some are just for very occasional use, you might consider some simpler bouyancy aids for those. In a small sportsboat, you should be back at any MOB very very fast. Dinghy sailors for example use something simpler.
Dock fender- you can use a fender tied to the pontoon for alot less. After all, the idea isnt to use it as a bumper!
get one bigger ballon fender-just make sure you can store it. This is great for "driving" the boat against the pontoon to push one end out. Just check you can store on board those size of fenders. You ll only need fender socks where the fender is rubbing between any blue gelcoat and the pontoon; you dont need it for white gel really.
Buy some three strand, and a book on knots and make up your own lines; at least they will then be the right length for your boat.
10kg anchor and 6m of chain isnt going to be light to pull up. I d go for a Danforth.
Try compass24 .. not nec always the cheapest, but gives you an idea how much some are charging!

Excellent info. Agree with lifejackets, we bought 2 good auto ones, for my wife and I, and any guests, get plane old Bouyancy aids, if anything was too happen, i don' need to worry about the guests knowing how to inflate them manually if they don't inflate automatically.

6 fenders will be plenty for that size if boat, I've always wanted a couple of big ball ones, but never had a boat, that could store them, so always managed with out.

Definately get fenders socks, cause he has nice ble hull, i saw his boat at Largs last weekend, think it might even have been them going out in it!!
Agree with anchor.

Looking at the brochure pics this boat appears to have an anchor roller so should be able to leave anchor on bow /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yeh it has a roller on the front, not sure it it lockes or not, but not intending on leaving the anchor over the front would prefer to put it in the box (room providing).
