Help Please - Potential "Raggie" Convert....

A fast sportscruiser in a bit of a sea will slam.

Not if the hull is deep enough. A decent deadrise to the stern and a planing Mobo can give a very soft ride. Of course, this does limit internal volume, so it is back to the caravan vs boat arguement...

hull design IMO is not that simple, if the boat has a deep v 20 deg plus is good
in my experience there is so much other factors....

Re: Help Please - Potential \"Raggie\" Convert....

nice post Nick

there is so much boats you should also consider which IMO offer so much
180.000 Stg = 260.000 EURO +
if I had that figure I would defintly consider a Gobbi 425 SC (2002 +)
spacious innovative inside and outside an amazing boat
but apart this there is so much more
if you want to contact me PM I will be glad to help

Re: Help Please - Potential \"Raggie\" Convert....

Second that, the Gobbi is a nice boat.

My point was, Cassar, that a fast planng boat will not neccessarily slam. I.e. all boats are not bourne equal, and I know there is more to hull design than that. I was just making a point that to say 'all planing hulls will crash and bang over every ripple' is wrong.

Just a note on Sealine "quality", to say that the three Sealines I have owned have been increasingly problem-free as the years have progressed -

Sealine 240 (built in 1994) - a bit of a disaster.
Sealine S24 (built 2001) - generally fine, some small problems.
Sealine S28 (built 2003) - Biggest fix so far is to re-attach the curtain rail.

Re: Help Please - Potential \"Raggie\" Convert....

Understandable reason. Sitting on a flybridge at speed is a bit scary until you're used to it. You need a tender more with a mobo simply because you will arrive at your destination a lot quicker than with a sailboat and then you'll wonder what to do with yourself, the usual answer being that you'll get the tender out and go to the shore

Due to the recurrence of an old back injury of mine, we are finding it hard to enjoy, or indeed get a lot of use out of our 2006 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40.3 as SWMBO is not strong enough to winch and I end up in the bunk for 12 hours after a gentle afternoon sail!

Re: Help Please - Potential \"Raggie\" Convert....

Thanks for all the suggestions and advice....gratifying to know that it is entirely possible to cross the Raggie/Stinky divide and get sensible answers and suggestions from the "dark side"!!!

In all honesty, although power winches are an option, the fact that everytime we want to go somewhere in the Med it is too windy/not windy enough/blowing straight in our faces is beginning to get a bit wearing...at least around the Balearics one can decide which way to turn out of port to get a fair wind, but I can't find/afford the berth and "linear sailing" from the mainland is not the same!!!

At least, given that we don't have to suffer the loss of red diesel prices out there, the fuel issue is calculable....fuel & maintenance mounts up on a "raggie" too - I bet I spent as much in two seasons on my last yacht as it would cost me to maintain a 40 foot powerboat to a similar standad...you think Volvo are expensive for parts....try using a sailmaker!!!!!

Just doing a comparison of V42 to SS Camargue 44 now as we hadn't looked at those!!

All - We really appreciate your input..THANK YOU /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
