So you are aware of Bystander Effect, you know there is lesser chance of the alarm so you chose to become victim to a known effect and not raise the alarm??

Yes, obviously or I wouldn't be offering it as an example. ...and not just me. It was miles high it must have been visible to over a thousand people with VHFs and maybe 50,000 people with mobile phones. (Total guesses.)

Obviously it was to far away for me and the people around me to known what it was, but it clearly wasn't usual. I put it down to a ship burning some freaky oil through it's engines. (I've seen warships smoking quite excessively before.)

With the mobile phones then the emergency services now tend to get a lot more calls and they all tend to not be seeing the same thing.
So Bob will probably be a life raft or a blond in the phone call.
