Can't offer any advice about your boat but don't let your lack of Spanish put you off. I bought a boat a few months back from a Swiss couple who don't speak English. French is their first language and apart from merci my French is non existent. We have been corresponding for months in French with the help of Google Translate. I write my e mails in English and copy and paste the translation and gmail gives me an automatic translation of the reply. It's bloody great. I use it for translating Turkish too when something is too complicated for my basic Turkish skills.

You might get a reasonable, not token payment..
It's important that, on the day of transfer, you the buyer and yard agree who owes what on that day and beyond.
I'd add to something like the RYA proforma to include 'the buyer agrees to take responsibility for all fees/insurance .,
Also, the buyer will not want to be bitten by old fees or mortgages.

RYA bill of sale. Don't worry about the rest yet as you can post separate threads about those when the time comes.

There was a sailing school there once, maybe still is. I couldn't imagine them wanting the boat but they'll know the locals so might be worth the effort to find out if they're still there and give them a call just for a bit of advice on which locals to talk to.

PS If you change your phone number and don't answer letters it will become the marina's problem ultimately. Not suggesting you do that though.
 
There have been some cases on here about messy transfers with complications. Don't let anyone have keys/permission to work before transfer/payment. Best to let the yard accompany viewings.

The SSR is irrelevant as it is not title. Hopefully your FIL had a Bill of Sale recording the transfer to him or some other evidence of his title to the boat. No need to transfer the title as the executor has authority to sell the title on behalf of the deceased just like any of his other possessions. The proper way of transferring title to the new owner is using a BofS which you can download from the RYA or MCA and it is signed by the executor. As already suggested you may want a written record of what you agree with the buyer about who is responsible for what, but the BofS does in fact transfer title and all rights and obligations.

I don't see the yard being interested doing that, nothing in it for them, even if they were a broker nothing to be made on commission.

Is it worth contacting the Hurley owners association, as there maybe somebody there who would love to have it, albeit more likely if offer at a notional £1 or similar. http://www.hurleyownersassociation.co.uk/pages/contact.htm
Father in Law might prefer it to be given away to somebody who appreciates the Hurley and will cherish it?
 
Stick a for sale sign on it with your phone number saying best offer. Must sell someone will think they are getting a bargain and hopefully it will go.

Yes, I posted similar on their FB page - a little interest, but lack of photos and it being so far away were stumbling blocks. Have emailed marina to ask if they could take photos...

Dumb questions alert (never done this before) If someone does want the boat, does everybody (owner, new owner, witness) have to be in same place at time of signing? Does witness need to be, say, a solicitor?
 
If it was near us ( in Valencia) we would have been happy to locate and photo her and add a for sale notice to her. Perhaps even give her a wash!
There must be a similarly inclined forum member near to her who would do that? Try 'live aboard' forum??
There may be some equipment on board of some separate value?

I can't pretend to be an expert. I'd personally want a signed copy of the bill of sale and cleared payment before giving possession, in your case possibly via the yard handing over the keys.
All my purchases have been in person, one sale was over the phone, the buyer sent cash in two registered envelopes and I mailed him the keys!

What a kind sentiment. F.I.L. certainly managed to get her to a remote spot.

Equipment - there seemed to be. Nav type stuff. He originally sailed her to Gibraltar some 10+ years ago, then on Isla Canela about 5 years ago - and was living on her through that time.

I don't think you are obliged to accept anything willed to you. You could refuse and allow the marina to sort it out.

BTW I think £10k for a good Hurley is very optimistic in current markets - even in Britain. In Spain ???
