Hello all, im starting a refit of my Tremlett in the Penton Hook marina and was wondering if anyone on here is also based there, looking for brains to pick and ears to bend and people to anoy with tons of questions, Thanks.:)

Hi Tremlett 42 (nice boat, far too big for the Thames of course...) and welcome to the forum!

I'm not actually based in PH, but very close by, would happily blow the froth off a shandy one evening and give you lots of advice. The more shandy, the more advice and the less accurate (c:

Tremlett eh! Now there's a name to conjure with. In the 1960s every boating boy racers dreamboat. Went like a bat out of hell and sliced the nastiest seas like a warm knife through butter. I guess you could have called them Britain's answer to the Cigarette boats.
The 42 was quite rare, I have no idea how many were built but it wasn't that many, most of the Tremlett range being out and out sports boats.

... and I am just around the bend. My brains aren't worth picking but I am frequently up for a pint

I fully intend to uphold the reputation these boats seem to have, oh yes, you wait, I'll have my twin 1.8 bmc diesels purring away as we rocket up and down the Thames at about 8 knots:D:D:D:D

Actually looking again at the pics these might be 1.5's................................................................................................................oh dear.

Hi Gavi Hoping not to end up going around the bend on this monster refit, but I have a sneaking feeling thats exactly where I'll end up:o:o

As for the Shandy's, oh yes................takes very little to make drop everything and shoot off to the pub, and.......................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................shuts door on the way to the pub;););)

The original engines would have been Fords or Perkins up to 600hp and the boat had a cruising speed of 25 knots.

I hope to have a lead on some Saber's?, sure i saw in the bumf file that she had those originally, fingers crossed:)

Pair of Sabres is highly likely. I don't know if Chris Tremlett is still around or even alive now. His firm was based in Topsham, Devon and I believe they were called Tremett Skicraft Ltd or something like that. If you give me the original name of the boat plus year of build, I MAY have a record of her and what engines she had.

That sounds interesting, i think Chris Tremlett passed away recently, i din't get a chance to do much in the way of research as it was an impulse buy ie very cheap:D.

I think she is called Turama and as we are going to spend the weekend on her i will have a look for any numbers related to her build date.

We have a beautifully restored Tremlett on the Medway which moors between Allington Lock and Maidstone, think it about 35 ft long,an attractive boat.

"Chris Tremlett, powerboat designer and builder, was born on May 17, 1936. He died after a long illness on January 13, 2008, aged 71 ".
He had a tie up with a local chap Ray Stapley, who used to be the Mercury dealer in Medway.

A cracking piece of kit.Plain simple lines ,not a single unnecessary curve or embellishment,an picture of this should be on the wall of every boat designer allowed anywhere near a pencil and a roll of fibreglass.

thanks for ur kind words......we bought the bare hulls ( stage 1 ) from Tremlett's, then we cold moulded the transom & outboard well ( both curved ) and cold moulded the deck in double diagonal bottom layer 3mm birch ply & top layer 3 > 4mm mahogany & completed the fit-out.............

it was Ray Stapley that inspired us to buy Tremlett hulls, see pic below IoM race mid/late 60's..a StapleyTremlett....
