OK, well swmbo is getting very fed up with the the current heads on the boat (Brydon manual)

Suggestion to use bucket did not go down well either. To tell the truth, I am fed up with squeaky ineffiecient hand pump that spits water out the top.. at least I tell her its water... but suspect contaminated with bowl contents..

I am sure a good servicing would sort out most the issues but the thought of pressing one button instead of all that switch flicking and pumping is appealing, and there is always the other heads which will stay manual if i get nostalgic.

Anyway decided to replace with nice one push XM electric job that will make life much better.

I have ordered from mailspeed, plus assorted hoses and other bits, to go from exisiting fittings to new loo.

Anyone have any experience of changing over?

Have already secured large supply of surgical gloves and clothes peg for nose.

tips and hints all gratefully received!

regards,

Make sure you've had a pee before you start taking it apart. Nothing like the heads being unavailable to make the use of the lavatory urgent.

get swmbo to stand behind you with a bucket, pass her the bits as you remove them. then remember an urgent need to get something from ashore. always works with changing oil filters, no reason it shouldn't work here!

if swmbo (whoever that might be?) is the one getting fed up with the current heads arrangement, I would rap the new one up in gift paper and wait until Christmass or birthday, then it's not your problem, you might call it passing the buck(et).

Thankks for all the advice so far.. but all seems destined to land me in divorce court...

I tried giving her a handbearing compaass one year... not good at all... fortunately I had a back up present or I would still be walking funny....

My experience of electrical systems is not good, although I know nothing of the age and history of the machine that I inherited with a boat. The problem with that one was that the seal failed between the macerator and the motor, necessitating intense cleaning. I did this on the visitor pontoons at Douarnenez, attracting curious stares from the locals, who doubtless had all their preconceptions of Brits confirmed when they saw one washing electric motors with a hose pipe!

My advice, therefore, is to make sure you have plenty of spare seals anf know how to install them.
