Bernie Merrett did mine this year. He's ex-Westerly and did a good job. He didn't travel all the way up the Clyde, I bought the boat in the South and based it at Quay Lane Boatyard (Gosport) while he did the work. Bernie advertises in PBO, as does another guy Roger Nantais (sp?). I've PM'd you his mobile number.
I cannot make a recommendation but I can say: I did the job myself on the fore cabin and main saloon of a Westerly Merlin. Nothing would induce me to ever do it again. If the price seems high when you get quotes there is a very good reason.
Adrian Crumpton works for Sealine until next Friday then he's going solo, will be based in Southampton. Excellent upholsterer and fitter, can dig out his mobile number if you want it?
Its not the easiest of jobs but it is far from difficult. There are a number of tricks though to making a really good job of it. You learn them by the time you've done it 2 or 3 times (Ive done it twice, but I am not at all likely to be doing it thrice).
Removing the old stuff and cleaning back to the bare GRP is very unpleasant and messy.
Using a solvent based adhesive is hazardous. Good ventilation and the use of an "Organic Vapours" mask are essential.
As said Hawke House marine, in GOSPORT not Fareham can supply all the materials, adhesives (Solvent based contact adhesive on the GRP and spray adhesive on the back of the lining. Water resistant PVA onto ply panels) and the mask. They also sent me a very useful hints and tips leaflet.
I used Roger Nantais about 4 years ago. It was the most expensive element of our refit ( his price was in the middle of a range of quotes);
He was prepared to travel and stay in aB&B (his next job was in Greece!)
He agreed a few months ahead when he would do the job - he then did it on time!
Excellent qulaity work
Everything cleaned up.
I didn't meet him just gave him the keys and inspected the boat before I paid him the final installment.
The agreed price was kept to.
