Has PBO lost it?

Maybe they've been on the Xmas sauce a bit early but this month's cover of PBO actually says Motorboating - Fun, fast and practical and, inside, the Editor is reccomending that some yotties take a look at 'white plastic planing boats' - apparently they're good for 'picnic lunches at anchor'
And there's more - a full report on the Phantom 40 which sunk in the Needles Channel, a mention of the Princess 65 which sunk in Poole and a big article on choosing a RIB
There'll be a few yotties choking on their half pints of lager shandy in the sailing club bars after this. The letters page ought to be amusing next month

Well wotcha expect. They've got Jake on board, so he was bound to have an effect eventually.

He might even be bringing the new PBO rib to the Poole meet this weekend

Nah, there's always been some interest in "practical" boats (i.e. ones with bloody big motors.) Let's face it, lots of us yotties just keep the big stick thingy in the middle so that we have somewhere to put the vhf antenna to get good range.

We do occasionally uncover the white cloth thingies and hang them up but only when the wind is not too light or too strong and if it is in the right direction. Going into the wind is clearly in violation of the laws of physics.

ooh. I always thort it meant Povertystricken Boat Owner, with tips on how to repair the exhaust with bogroll tubes and sellotape. I wonder why Deleted User is reading it tho? Perhaps he's hoping to buy a small ragboat as an ornament in his saloon...

So....whats wrong with bogrioll repairs, adequately soaked in thinned down epoxy, nicked from the scrap bin round the back of princess?? Plus some of that natty gaffer tape stuff!

I must miss the motorboat stuff then even though I have subscribed to the thing for years. Occasionally, there's a lame article or two about motorboating, but PBO is unashamedly aimed at yotties - nothing wrong with that btw - just does'nt exactly cater for we 'plastic planing boat' owners. No useful articles comparing the merits of gold and stainless steel rocker covers, nothing on making an icemaker out of a fairy liquid bottle and an old Decca navigator nor testing helm station tinny holders at 30knots

Re: Icemaker: project plan

1. Buy some bit and pieces. Cheap, mind you!
2. Faff about in a shed for two whole boating seasons.
3. Take lousy pics of the icemaker in progress, including up to (but not quite) totally and utterly finished and all tidied up afterwards. Note: nobody will read the text, nor question the diagram if it's a bit complicated.
4. Sendem off to PBO and receive a fantastic fee of fifty poxy quid
5. Buy a secondhand icemaker that actually works instead of the rubbishy homemade contraption or (if you really are very PBO ish ) some nasty-coloured antifoul instead, you tight git.

You\'ve noticed!

It's a fair cop gov - but we haven't lost it - we've refound it! A lot of our readers confess to being motorboaters. Some keep a yacht in the Med, and a powerboat in the UK. They love to disassemble engines, build things, fix things...and we'll be taking PBO (gently) in that direction. Look out for repower projects, trailer-motorboating, and small, very affordable powerboats.
If any of you have any projects in the build, we'd love to hear about them. In the next couple of issues we've got a petrol-LPG-diesel conversion on a Fairline Sprint. along with more on handling a RIB. There's a lot of cross-over features too, such as headlinings, osmosis treatment, et al, and guess what - we're aiming to get more good looking women into the pages as well. Keep an eye on PBO, motorboaters. 'Tis going places....
By the way, the good looking woman driving the RIB on page 117 is non other than your very own 'Powerskipper!'

Re: PBO RIB will be there

Jake,
Thanks, though sadly I won't be at this meet due to prior commitments.

We have met before though, when you came to do a brilliant talk at the Pathfinder agm last year. I was the one setting everything up before hand with Geoff Sheddick

Bear the club in mind if doing any articles. Always glad to help

Bloody excellent news Jake. I was just wondering what to buy now that MBM's become more padding than substance. I shall have to have a shufty at PBO instead. Come to think of it, even though PBO has always been mostly raggie, I have always found it a good read when I've been in the doctor's waiting room. My doctor is a stinky rag and has a deck shoe in each camp. No wonder his nickname is "Two boats".

Bill.

Re: You\'ve noticed!

I am not a very practical boat owner at all but have really enjoyed the last few issues. Excellent articles including the radar tips etc which are highly appropriate for us.

Also I counted three articles about Hythe....

Please keep it up as I for one like the magazine very much.

Thanks

Nick
