Thats what it said on my old comfusers screen saver. Well I started to buy and install Norton Antivirus at 4-30am and I got it finished at 2-30pm. So yes, it has changed my life..../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

You are lucky, I have spent a lot longer than that trying to load Norton Internet Security Pro. Luckily I bought a hard copy rather than a download. I have twice now completely removed it from the machine and cleaned up the files (Norton Utilities) and then re-loaded. It still hasnt loaded correctly. A job for the weekend complicated by the fact that you have a choice of waiting for responses each time for a few days or paying through the nose for their telephone support cause their bl**dy software wont load properly and I am too mean to pay more money for it/forums/images/icons/crazy.gif. I had the safe problem last year with Norton Antivirus and the previous years firewall.
I am an unhappy camper!

I had a similar problem about a year ago. In the end, I removed Norton Utilities, installed the other software and then reinstalled Norton Utilities. Problem solved. I have heard there may be a slight corruption with utilities when trying to install other software.

Why didn't you get AVG? It's free and it's system doesn't upset computers.

I got rid of Norton a long time ago. Always seemed to be conflicting with something or other.

Agree AVG is very good, "Spybot search and destroy" is another handy little tool, tracks down system registry entries you don't know about plus you can kill background apps that seem to sneak in every so often.

Manual!!! What have I been missing. Where do you plug it in??
Would have thought your comfuse would have come with one, or at least with a disk. It goes in the tea cup holder for some reason. You know what it's like on here. Whatever you use, everyone else says it's crap so then finnish up doing nothing in the confusion.

o and find the hijacked thread on the feedback thread, there are some links there.

Re: Hijacked!! [re: hlb] Post Reply

Your web browser has been hijacked by 'spyware'.

I strongly recommend downloading and installing SpyBot Search & Destroy - this free tool removes such nasties from your computer. They often do much worse things than just hijacking your browsers homepage, including logging everything you type, such as passwords..

Spyware often installs itself without your knowledge due to out of date software. If you dont already, you should visit Windows Update regularly - otherwise you are leaving your computer vulnerable to attacks.

These days I really wouldnt go on the internet without anti-Virus, anti-spyware, a firewall and regular windows updates.. its asking for trouble. Norton Internet Security gives you the anti-virus, spyware and firewall all in one for £55 and comes highly rated by Web User Magazine

I use Norton Anti Virus, but its a personal thing, there are several on the market. Just to get a little technical, if you plan on using the internet often, most of the antivirus systems update themselves automatically, providing you keep up with the annual subscription fees. I also find that Symantic, who own Norton, are also very good with any new viruses that come along. This new mydoom thing was quickly sorted by them and they had a repair tool within days. As regards stopping people getting at your software, you really need a firewall. If your confuser is new, you probably have Windows XP which has its own firewall system, which you must enable, or you can download Zone Alarm a free firewall which I find very good. A firewall system of some description is a must if you intend using a broadband connection for internet.

Good luck!!!!

Since switching on the new confuser, on Wed, i've had that Spyware popup, about every 3 hours. Along with a few other, a bit more suggestive..

What a pain in the a#se, they are, How do you stop them?

Download ZoneAlarm. Far better than the XP one

To trun on the XP one, go to your help panel and type firewall, It will tell you this:

To enable or disable Internet Connection Firewall
Open Network Connections
Click the Dial-up, LAN or High-Speed Internet connection that you want to protect, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.
On the Advanced tab, under Internet Connection Firewall, select one of the following:
To enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), select the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box.
To disable Internet Connection Firewall, clear the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box.
Notes

To open Network Connections, click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network Connections.
You must be logged on as a computer administrator to complete this procedure.
If you clear the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box, the firewall on your computer is disabled, and your network is vulnerable to intrusions.
You should not enable Internet Connection Firewall on virtual private networking (VPN) connections or on client computers because ICF will interfere with file and printer sharing.
ICF cannot be enabled on the private connections of the Internet Connection Sharing host computer.
Internet Connection Sharing, Internet Connection Firewall, Discovery and Control, and Network Bridge are not available on Windows XP 64-Bit Edition.

stops /cleans spywares in about 3 seconds and stops all popups, doesnt interfere with any program and totally adjustable settings that you can control!! ive used norton, adaware etc and all at some point bu*****d up my computer! It also has a net blocker allowing you stop access to certain sites, good for kids.

dont make any money off them but great piece of software I run it with xp pro.

Try it this way mate,
Click on the Start button in the Taskbar.
Select the Control Panel option.
The Control Panel will appear.
Double-click on the Network Connections icon.
The Network Connections dialog will appear.

Right-click on the Local Area Connection icon.
Select the Properties option from the submenu that appears.
The Local Area Connection Properties dialog will appear.

Go the the Advanced tab
Make sure there is a check mark in the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box.
Click on the OK button.
You now have installed the default Microsoft XP Firewall.
Note: For those of you who would like even more protection, we recommend the free ZoneAlarm Firewall. To download it, click on http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp?lid=zadb_zadown and follow the on-screen instructions.

Best of luck, is it xp home or pro?

Use Mcafee internet security on my computer and Norton on my wifes, ( mainly cause they came with it) Found Norton bit more hassle to get it setup properly.
Mcafee a doddle, has spyware cleaner etc.
Used ZoneAlarm and AVG on old one, found avg fine, but found zonealarm bit of hassle to setup properly when using a network.
Surprised your new computer not come with antivirus and firewall, but as everyone else suggests you should install them , especially if your on broadband.
WindowXP firewall is very basic.
