We are thinking of mooring at Harleyford Marina next season. Also considering joining the Harleyford Motor Yacht club does anyone have any comments/experiance of the club???
Welcome Gatsby...Ar you based at Harleyford? The club seems active, although I have never got around to joining, I saw plenty of club activity last year!
Speaking as a Bray man, the Harleyford club have a good number of very friendly members and some nice boats. They are quite active and it is always a pleasure to meet them on the river.
Absolutely true, lots of nice boats, lots of nice moorings. Everytime we go past most owners appear to be sitting on their boats on their nice moorings (those with any signs of life that is). Haven't actually seen much moving there though apart from cars parking up - do any of those gin palaces actually move? Thought they'd sold the engines to make more room for wine cellars!
I am a member of both Harleyford Motor Yacht Club (HMYC) and UTMYC at Sonning.
HMYC is a super club with many, but by no means all, members based at Harleyford Marina.
A large contributor to Harleyford Marina bertholders remaining on their berths is the beautiful surroundings, especially if based on the gardens or the islands.
Like any marina, river or coastal, the majority of boats rarely move off their moorings so little difference there.
As HMYC don't have on site clubhouse facilities, the majority of events are out on the river at different locations which many prefer, as it gets one out on to the river. They usually have both up river and down river (London or coastal) cruises during the season, and in the winter regular social evenings often at the excellent Harleyford Golf Club clubhouse.
Take a look at their website, designed and maintained by one of the members. www.hmyc.co.uk
Can't beat the Marina for scenery...we even spent Boxing Day on the boat, watching the deer feeding... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Bray is better value - good club, MDL benefits, great end of season (free) pi** up
& better mooring
I`ve always wondered about security at Harlyford if moored on the riverbank - there is a mobile home park / golf club / chandlery & company offices all with public access and a long strech of unlit moorings (not pontoons).
I have often noticed this as my ex SWMBO lives at the Hurley mobile home park opposite

I havn't heard of any problems...the only easy way into the estate would be by boat...security do patrol quite a lot and it is fenced in. Bary dosn't have its yearly rate up, so if you could give me some idea would be grateful.
