Hardy

There is a 1996 boat for sale in Ireland asking just over £58k, but the broker is upfront in stating it needs reconditioning

I was about to offer to take some pictures of the boat for OP but then I read his response below yours Whitelighter!

Got a sniff on two 355 one in Glasgow bit pricy at 77k but may well go and look but don't think I will be offering any wear near the asking price
The other is in Plymouth I have already ascertained the seller would look below 50k this sounds more like it
Fingers crossed

I looked at a Seawings 355 in Plymouth back in October 2010 - 'Porky's Revenge II'. If it's the same boat you're considering ping me a message if you'd like some background.

I bought my Seawings in 2004, best buy ever - has done me well over the last 9 years .... i have refurbed totally last year with leather interior, new Fairline cockpit refurb to all seats and new steering wheel and new electronics - including EC .... (Volvo converstion from manual throttle/gears. My only complaint is the single tank with 140 gallon capacity ... other than that much better than any of the rubbish mass manufactured Fairline doral sealine etc boats - build quality far exceeds any of the others seaworthyness (if there is such a word) far better in fact I did look at a targa at the same time and the tagas were a lot smaller on the inside - the saloon is about 1/3 bigger on the seawings I get 6 round the table and with an additional 2 seats get 8 no problems so not sure what all the is about 4 people!! being a hard top it is much better for UK coastal trips .... catering for the UK summer weather (Rain and Snow) whilst also allwing two sun hatches to be uncovered and let in the occasional warm day ..... plenty of stowage - in fact I would not even begin to compare the seawings 355 with any other sports boat at similar size as they just cannot compete.

Finally I do realise that these days boats are not something that people can afford - however if the quotes above say that a good one is worth about £50K to £55K then dont expect to be getting one soon - it is not worth selling that low ... value for money I would say look at about 65K - 70K or forget it ..... and if the value of the seawings is at the ridiculously low price of £50K to £55K then go for a plastic replica boat like a Fairline Targa of the same size as using the same deductions on VFM they should be about £35 - £40 for something similar ....

You wont catch me selling mine for that stupidly low price - and ... where do you get £70K for a F37 - ive been looking for a F37 for 3 years and even last week they are fetching the £120K to £150K - please let me know what world you are living in ......

I would recommend the Seawings 355 over any other similar size boat as believe me I have seen a few and compared them to mine and NONE are a patch on the seawings.

Have to say I probably agree with clivew05 overall on the price issue. We considered these several times over the years and owners do seem to expect ridiculously high prices but circa £50k is probably a little low for a decent one. Nice boats but for me the cockpit was a little tight (I am 6'5"" tall). One I considered had a seriously manky engine so maybe something going on with some of them there as suggested by Volvopaul. Overall Hardy build good boats so build quality shouldn't be a major factor.
