Quite right, Pauline. Can't let the barbarian Celtic hordes make all the noise

I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit; and, upon this charge
Cry "God for Harry! England and Saint George!"

Re: Happy St George\'s Day

Are we allowed to celebrate St George's day? I thought it wasn't allowed.

Course if you live in London, Red Ken will encourage you to celebrate St Paddy's day, and St Daffodil of the taffs, St Ivel the patron saint of yogurt is also OK, as is St Swing Bin-Laden the Basra litter guardian.

But St George................. no chance.

If you remind Red Ken that St.G is also patron saint of the Turks and the Lebanese, he'll probably give you some funding.

Sorry, can't find the word "shite" in the dictionary - please try again AND GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME. /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif. No, on second thoughts don't bother, SWMBO has ordered me to hold the ladder whilst she scrapes the paper off the kitchen ceiling. God, the things I put up with - still that's all part of being a Celt - literate , generous , mild mannered , reliable , modest etc.etc. She's English, but I suppose that was obvious.

France factor

I would if I had possession of a boat. It's still in the repair yard. It is however a French repair yard, so I suppose I could them instructions to fly a St George and to round it off nicely I could include Deleted User's extract of Henry V's night-before-Agincourt speech. Oooh yes, that'll go down a treat..... they'll probably piss in our fresh water tanks

Re: France factor

St George's Day sounds like an excellent reason to indulge in a decent pint or two, and a pipe or so of decent baccy, while musing over the blessings of being an Englishman.

And happy birthday Wiilam Shakespeare as well.

Re: Happy St George\'s Day

Well done Pauline,

I too will be raising a glass or two today. To hell with all the local councils trying to ban people from flying flags.

From a Court order I think, and will stand corrected of course, one has 28 days to comply, Why dont you start a campaign to see how many councils start jumping up and down? I would take great pleasure in lowering a flag after 27 days, but would one get hit with costs? we don't want to waste good boating money on these vermin!

Have a great weekend everybody, the water is calling. Paul

Re: France factor

Well tell me which yard and I'll go and do it for them !!

I also thought that it was widely accepted that despite being half-starved that it was the Welsh archers who took the field at Agincourt, was it not ?

Which makes it kind of rich that dear old Bill Shakespeare was obviously one of Henry V's spin doctors and taking all the credit a-la-Blair.

Re: Happy St George\'s Day

Well I'm celebrating it, but then again I am a Jock!!!

The problem is why have I come back to the office for the sake of half an hour???

I saw someone called Steve who knows you over Easter, by the way. Can't remember his boat but it had a wide beam compared to mine (as does everyone) and he summers about 4 boats down from you and winters in South Quay, if that's any use.

Is it time to go home yet? /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Why is no one in the chat room?
