Thanks all, You're all so very kind. Just got back to the Ronald McDonalds House, where we've been staying for the last 4wks, i will be checking tomorrow and heading home again tomorrow night. Today has been my best birthday ever, the wee man doing great, my wife feeling so much better now that shes with him, and also me managing to have a pint of the black stuff too. Pure heaven, what more could I ask for!!! Cheers Alistair.

Re: Ronald McDonald House

Tis fab, its like a hotel, except free!!!! We've stayed there for 4 weeks, and its been a godsend.

And yes, it is the same Ronald MacDonald that started the Mcdonalds fastfood outlets.

Re: Ronald McDonald House

ah, is it cos the hospital is not nearby? And do they serve Macdonalds morning noon and night? It sounds excellent.

Byt the way, Macdonalds wasn't started by Roanals Mcdonald. Nor even by Old Macdonals who had a farm. I think it was er Ray Croc. Or bloke named something like that anyway.

Re: Ronald McDonald House

Really!! Didn't know that.

Ronald MacDonald house provides free accomadation for families of sick children in hospital, they have houses all over the world usually next door too the hospital. It enables parents to be very close the their children when they are critically ill.

Yorkhill Hospital is actually less than 5 mins from my work, and i travel the journey every day, but when your baby is critically ill, and their condition can change at any time, you need to be able to get too his beside very quickly.
Hence why ICU put our names forward to Ronald McDonald house.

We would stay at his beside till the early hours, before returning the house, and occasionally we got the call to say he was having a rough night, and we would go straight back over to be with him, 'Just in case'!!

Here's their website, it will probably explain things alot better, although i hope you never need there facilties.

Never saw any Big Macs' there, apart the guy we met fae Inverness that was staying there!!!!!
