Recently purchased 26 foot bilge (3ft draft) and looking for a deep water mooring from next march, anything considered.
Living in Bournemouth I am looking for anything past Portland bill to Plymouth.
I was going to bring it back but would like to spend a season exploring the west country.
Many thanks & happy Xmas all..

A few at Cargeen YC a bit above the Tamar Bridge on the Cornish side. V friendly and you have the whole Plymouth Sound to play in on bad weather days About and hour 15 to open sea, however mooring plus membership only around £600 which is way cheaper than in say The Plym. Also everything on the Devon side involves horrendous traffic so no quicker to drive.

We thought about Exmouth or Teignmouth but the travel to Bristol was only slightly better, and Dartmouth was unaffordable. If you can find something Salcombe and can face the weather restrictions on the bar, that might be ok, but i dont know current prices

Thats very helpful. I will be travelling down over the holiday period and will have a drive round. The price sounds great😁 TY.

I think a number of Plymouth clubs would sort you out but you would have to show up, Friday night is often best. Plym Yacht Club is handily on your side of the city - trot moorings. Also Saltash SC.

If you prefer a swinging mooring, Google Mayflower Boatowners, they have been advertising for members recently. All of the options are mostly well under 1000 £ even with joining fees.

That's great Doug. I will contact as many as poss and take your advice and go down for a long weekend. That was my concern the cost but under £1000 is doable. Many thanks!

Mooring waiting list for some, plus most insurers will not be happy with swinging moorings over winter below the Tamar Bridge, though Saltash trots reportedly ok over winter (I hate trots and spent 30 years with them regretting every pick up on bluster days)

Weir Quay a pain to get too by road. Plym YC is indeed on the Bournemouth side but again a wait though it has its charm and might be my choice once old and only needing to pay double my fees for a few years
