Hanging a dinghy in the rafters

I have a scaffold pole set horizontally below the rafters, at the correct height & suspended on 2 metal brackets. The wife & I lift the stern up & hook it over that. then I attach a block & tackle to the bow & with a few gentle words from the wife, I lift the bow as far as I can ,whilst she pulls on my tackle !! Then we both give a tug until it is right up . I have made sure that my truss is properly secured. (y)
Often accompanied by grunting & harsh words. But it only takes place once a year.

A tip worth remembering is to store lots of gear under it. That means that you cannot walk in the vicinity & smash the hell out of one's nut. Because that can hurt.

??? Must be something in the Water at the moment - a mate has just sent me a ‘putting up a tent is like making love to a beautiful woman...’ Swiss Toni clip!

Thankfully, roof is high enough to be well out of the way once it’s up, but so high that I will need to hire a professional ladder to get up there, hence wanting to prethink it rather than just playing around until I find the best solution.

Then you should think about a mezanine floor & stick all the other boaty stuff up there as well

I lifted a Volvo MD11C engine to get it into someones estate car. I spread the load between two trussed rafters and was surprised that there was no discernible deflection of the joists when we lifted the engine off the trolley that it was sat on. I would guess that that engine weighs about 150 Kg.

I have just built a garage with workshop over top as second floor (has a bar and lounge as well up there) .. above that is a half height storage area ...

Garage is 12.4m x 7.2m .... two cars (actually large enough for two vans - none of your banging doors to get in out !) and a third room at end as ground floor with stairs to bar / lounge 7m x 4m ... then to the workshop of 7m x 8m. Balcony of 12m x 2m runs across front .. Storage above is 12m x 4m.
