I have two lifejackets with hammar inflation. On the units they say Replace if red (its showing green), and "replace during 2012". Does that mean replace the whole Hammar unit, or just the CO2 cylinder?

I believe it's the Hammar unit that has the calendar-based life; the cylinder is checked by weighing.

New hammar units come with a cylinder glued into them anyway, to remove the risk of the bottle unscrewing.

It's the Hammar unit that needs replacing.

For the CO2 cylinders, just check that there is no corrosion / puncture marks and then weigh it - if it's the right weight then you can carry on using it.

I've used these guys for replacements - fast and claim to have the latest stock e.g. longest service life left.

Thank you for that. I bought the lifejackets from them, and will get the re-arming kits when I come back to the UK.
