Was wandering around hamble point at the top end, seems like a ghost town lot of the dealers have moved down to swanick
just seemed very quite for those who are left trying to sell boats, the place looks very tired lots of empty units around, must say very impressed with the new look swanick sales area looks very fresh and invitin. so good move for those that have gone.

We popped back there for sunday lunch at the Ketch the other weekend and thought how much we missed it. It was certainly pleasantly busy in the Ketch that's for sure. Two very different marinas in terms of vibe and space. We like them both for different reasons.

I was there yesterday lunchtime and was surprised how busy it was actually! Took a ride the long way out of the yard and it was a hive of activity.

They have been busy cladding all the old buildings around HPM, even the old sales building along Firefly Way, all look very smart now. Indeed Sea Ventures, Clipper marine all gone to Swanwick, SD Marine who I sold my Hardy through are staying put. I think a good call IMO. Best run boat yard around in my opinion... but if I never set foot in the Ketch again I would be a happy chap... what a wasted opportunity.

Really surprised at that FF. A mile better than the Boat House at Swanwick and their carvery is superb.

The ketch is great, not cheap but far better than many other bars/restaurants in the area.
Yard is always busy as are many of the contractors that are based there. Swanwick is a bit of a sales hotspot but I know which I prefer.

The last couple of times we've been to the Nav, the food and service has been spot on. The manager there is getting it just right imo.

OK I’m biased as a dog owner, but I have to say the Boathouse (Swanwick as there are others franchised by the Premier group) is the most dog friendly eating establishment I know, which may not please 50% of visitors. The food is OK but the location better.

I truly dis like the Boathouse it is down right ****, a smoke filled dump with rubbish food,

I know that is scathing but I am well qualified to have a developed a real view on that place,

I do like the Navigator but did not enjoy it's location sitting on a busy main road did not feel very boaty, my wife does not agree with me she feels the Navigator is over priced and the food is only OK

I much preferred the Spinnaker. I'd always go cheap and cheerful rather than expensive and OK. I'm constantly amazed at what boaty people will pay for a meal

I'm surprised. Last season we went to the boat house in Chichester for an evening meal with some dog owners we know and the dog was not welcome. They said dogs were fine during the day but not in the evenings. We went there Saturday just gone for an evening meal with the same couple and they left the dog on my boat because of the reception last time.

The Navigator is alright for the wealthy types. Always found it a tad pretentious myself.

Must admit, can't fault the food there but it feels clinical rather than friendly in the restaurant and it suffers from the same problem as the BoatHouse were the locals strategically position themselves to ensure you can't get to the bar!

Boat House Chichester. On the menu was Steak & Chips £16.95 (ish). Also there was the Special Offer Steak & Chips plus glass of wine £13.95 (ish) Can't remember the exact figures, but about right.

So we order the special offer steak & chips, but don't want the glass of wine as I'm driving.

Waitress "That'll be the £16.95 meal, sir".

Me "Really? Okay, I'll have the special offer steak & chips and you have the glass of wine".

Waitress "Sorry, can't do that, so it'll have to be the £16.95 meal".

Me "No. I want the special offer steak & chips plus glass of wine without the wine"

Waitress " Sorry. I'l have to charge £16.95.

Me. "Okay. I'll have the special offer steak and chips plus glass of wine at £13.95 and I'll leave the wine on the table".

Waitress " That'll be fine sir"

So that's what we did.

Steak was awful, and not been back to eat since.

Ahh y'see...there's your mistake. Always eat in the bar, get chitty chatty with the manager = automatic parting of the crowds at the bar ;)

This thread just goes to show how much peoples experiences and opinions vary. I dislike the Ketch Rigger and quite like the Boathouse at Swanwick. I haven't tried all the Hamble shore side favourites but my favourite so far is the Banana Warf at Port Hamble.

you need to walk around and try the delights of the Ferry Restaurant, best food on the river (in my opinion :) ).

You will likely all miss the best food of all in Hamble - Cheesy Chips in the King & Queen when the snow is down and you have just noticed the blood flow returning to your frozen feet after a morning's sledging. I just love being snowed in, shame the kids will soon be too old for it !
