Hamble boats & Esso Fawley

Anyone got info on this as I heard this am a boat in Swanwick was covered in soot from the nearby refinery and the owner cannot get the oily soot off!


Never heard of this before but the wind was in the right diection at the w/e

We were in Hythe for two years with no problems, Mike. A bit of a whiff if the wind was SE, but OK otherwise.

I think the issue was more to do with the recent fire. There is a thread on shufflebum.

Ah - thats it. The guys did say a fire but I thought he was refering to the flare stack.

When was the fire then?
Apparently Esso have sent a bloke round to look at the boat and offer assistance to sort it out......

Our boat is on the Hamble and we discovered an oily grimy film all over it at the weekend - call the number provided in the harbour offices, as Fawley/Esso seem to be being quite pro-active about trying to remedy the situation.

I had a call from a friend to say our boat was filthy as well we're in Swanwick. She's been washed and waxed and has come up lovely ( so I'm told) I've also heard that Fawley will pay for covers and lines to be to be laundered but how we go about it I don't know.

There is a free phone number - I can't remember it now - but I'll get it tomorrow and post it here, unless somebody does it first. We rang it today and they were very helpful. All boats in Swanick mariana are being sorted and our two based at RK will be done shortly.

I have to say that whilst i am not affected by this; the response by esso seems brilliant!

Shame that developers ashore who muggy roads, cause dust, noise and other resident disruption are not equally blessed at making amends.


BTW I was off Ryde when the flare was set off but heading to Portmouth so 'missed' it - others who were out asked me if i saw it.......

We checked our boat (Port Hamble) at the weekend and it was fine as it appeared were all the surronding boats.

The guy in the marina office said that they saw the big thick cloud of black smoke come over head on Wednesday last week and then it appeared to dump on Mercury, Universal et al further up stream.

As an aside there was also a fire at HYS in Port Hamble the other day but I don't know if that has effected any other boats.

Thanks for the contact Solitaire Esso were very good in offering to professionally clean our boat or pay £175 if we wanted to organise the clean ourselves.
